Lammidia

Lammidia is Abruzzese dialect for the evil eye. The name comes from the ritual Davide Gentile's grandmother Antonia performed when the pair's first fermentation refused to start in 2010. It worked. By 2013 Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, childhood friends with no formal training, released their first official wines from a base at his grandmother's house in Villa Celiera.

The village sits on a plateau at 714 metres in the province of Pescara, inside Gran Sasso National Park, with the Adriatic visible on clear days. Winters are cold, summers hot, rainfall minimal, and the altitude keeps the wines fresh in a region better known for weight.

They work just over five hectares of organically farmed fruit from trusted grower friends who use no pesticides, herbicides or systemic treatments: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pinot Noir, Barbera and several unidentified old-vine selections. The motto is uva e basta, grapes and nothing else.

They built their own concrete tanks and amphorae by hand and work alongside steel and fiberglass. No chemicals have ever entered the cellar, everything is mechanical, ferments are spontaneous, and zero sulfur is added anywhere in the range. Expect pet-nats, orange wines, red field blends and carbonic reds, up to 30 cuvées a year.
