Product description

Le Coste Litrozzo Bianco 2024 is a skin-contact white wine from Gradoli in northern Lazio, crafted from a field blend of indigenous varieties including Procanico, Malvasia, Roscetto, Verdello, Petino, and Romanesco. Grown on volcanic soils overlooking Lake Bolsena, the grapes undergo whole-bunch fermentation with native yeasts, followed by aging in fiberglass tanks. The generous one-liter format makes this certified organic wine ideal for sharing. 11.5% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Le Coste

Le Coste began in February 2004 when Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron purchased three hectares of abandoned land near Gradoli—once a "garden" of vines and olives that had fallen into disuse. Both arrived with serious winemaking credentials, having worked for legendary French producers including Bruno Schueller in Alsace, Didier Barral in Languedoc, Dard et Ribo in the Rhône, Jean-Paul Thévenet in Beaujolais, and Philippe Pacalet in Burgundy. Gianmarco, a law graduate and trained sommelier, grew up near Gradoli and recognized the untapped potential of its volcanic terroirs.

The estate has expanded to roughly 14 hectares comprising vineyards, olive groves, chestnut trees, and oak forests. Vineyards are planted at densities up to 10,000 vines per hectare, including massale selections and ungrafted vines. While not officially certified biodynamic, their practices often exceed Demeter standards—copper and sulfur treatments, when used, remain well below permitted levels.

Clémentine manages viticulture while Gianmarco handles cellar work in an ancient building in Gradoli's village center. They use whole-bunch fermentation for all wines, including whites, and age primarily in fiberglass tanks. The cellar employs gravity for all transfers, eliminating pumps. Nothing is added during production—fermentation relies entirely on indigenous yeasts, and wines are bottled without fining, filtration, or sulfur.

The "Litrozzo" name playfully references the one-liter format, designed for casual enjoyment rather than formal occasions. These wines represent Le Coste's philosophy at accessible prices: uncompromising natural winemaking that remains eminently drinkable. Gianmarco has also championed indigenous Lazio varieties, helping rescue Procanico, Roscetto, and Petino from near-extinction.

Wine region

Lazio, Italy

Northern Lazio occupies a landscape sculpted by ancient volcanic activity, where Lake Bolsena—Europe's largest volcanic crater lake—dominates the terrain. The village of Gradoli perches on slopes descending toward the lake's northern shore, roughly 150 kilometers from Rome near the Umbrian border. This corner of Italy, known as Alta Tuscia, has cultivated vines since Etruscan times, yet remains largely unknown outside natural wine circles.

The soils here tell the story of eruptions that occurred hundreds of thousands of years ago. Rich in iron, volcanic ash, and minerals, they impart distinctive character to wines—flinty, saline qualities that set them apart from other Italian whites. The steep hillsides require hand labor, but vines forced to struggle in these demanding conditions produce concentrated, expressive fruit.

Lake Bolsena moderates the climate, creating conditions neither fully Mediterranean nor continental. Morning mists give way to warm days, while cool nights preserve acidity and aromatic freshness in the grapes. The surrounding forests and diverse ecosystem contribute to biodiversity that supports organic and biodynamic farming.

Lazio's broader wine identity centers on white varieties—Malvasia and Trebbiano dominate production for wines like Frascati and Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone. Yet the Gradoli area preserves indigenous varieties rarely cultivated elsewhere: Procanico (a local Trebbiano variant), Roscetto, Verdello, Petino, and Romanesco. Some producers, like Le Coste, have rescued these grapes from extinction, ensuring their survival for future generations.

A growing community of natural winemakers has brought international attention to this overlooked region, demonstrating that Lazio can produce wines of genuine character and complexity far removed from the bulk production that long defined its reputation.
