Tasting notes

At 10.5% ABV with an overnight skin contact and no added sulfites, Horus delivers bright citrus and herbal notes with genuine grip without weight. It is a Sauvignon Blanc that actually tastes like its vineyard: high-altitude, clay-limestone soils, alive with acidity.

  • Grapes & Terroir: 100% Sauvignon Blanc; 1 hectare; clay and limestone soils; 700m elevation; Gran Sasso National Park, Pescara province, Abruzzo
  • Winemaking: Hand harvested; destemmed; overnight skin maceration; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel; aged in stainless steel; no fining; no filtration; zero added SO2
  • Serving: Serve at 46-50F; no decanting needed; expect light sediment
  • Pairing: Baked white fish, grilled sardines, ceviche, goat cheese, lemon-dressed salads
  • Similar To: For fans of high-acid, low-intervention whites like Grüner Veltliner or Loire Sauvignon Blanc who want something even more stripped back

Horus is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from a single hectare of clay and limestone soils in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, with vines averaging 25 years of age. The vineyard sits at roughly 700 meters above sea level within the Gran Sasso National Park, where significant diurnal temperature swings preserve bright acidity even in warm vintages.

Grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed, and left on the skins overnight before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. The wine ages in stainless steel with no fining, no filtration, and zero added sulfites at any stage. Sediment in bottle is expected and is a sign of the hands-off approach.

The result is a low-alcohol white at 10.5% ABV with an herbal, tropical-fruited character and vibrant acidity. The overnight maceration gives just enough texture to separate it from a conventional Sauvignon Blanc without pushing it into full skin-contact territory.

Lammidia's motto is "uva e basta" (grapes and that's it), and Horus delivers exactly that: a direct, unmanipulated expression of the grape and the land at altitude in central Abruzzo.

Works well with light seafood dishes such as baked fish with potatoes, grilled sardines, or ceviche. The herbal edge pairs naturally with dishes featuring fresh herbs, capers, or lemon. Try alongside a simple goat cheese salad or lemon-dressed greens.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Lammidia

Lammidia was founded by Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, childhood friends from Pescara who reconnected after university with a shared interest in natural wine. They began experimenting in 2010 and released their first official vintage in 2013. The winery is based in Villa Celiera, a small village in the province of Pescara within the Gran Sasso National Park, at approximately 700 meters above sea level. The name Lammidia comes from the Abruzzese dialect word for the evil eye, a reference to a folk ritual performed by Davide's grandmother Antonia when their first fermentation stalled.

Lammidia works with around 5 hectares of purchased fruit from trusted growers in Abruzzo who farm without pesticides, herbicides, or systemic treatments, alongside some estate fruit. Vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically. The Horus Sauvignon Blanc parcel is 1 hectare of 25-year-old vines on clay and limestone soils. Vines in the area are often trained on the traditional Abruzzo pergola system, which shades the clusters from summer heat.

Davide and Marco have no formal wine training and do not work with agronomists or oenologists. All winemaking decisions are made in-house through ongoing experimentation. The cellar uses stainless steel, fiberglass, concrete, and amphora depending on the wine; Horus ferments and ages entirely in stainless steel. No additions are made at any stage: no fining agents, no filtration, no added sulfites. The duo currently produces close to 30 different cuvees annually.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on Italy's central Adriatic coast, bounded by the Marche to the north, Lazio to the west, and Molise to the south. Roughly 65% of the region is mountainous, including Gran Sasso, the highest peak in the Apennines at 2,912 meters. Most vineyards occupy the hilly band between the Adriatic coast and the Apennine foothills, typically 15 to 20 miles inland. The interior province of Pescara, where Lammidia farms, experiences a more continental climate than the coast, with cold winters, warm summers, and marked day-to-night temperature swings at elevation that maintain acidity in the grapes.

Abruzzo's dominant DOC wines are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (red), Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (white), and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo (rosé), all built on native varieties. The region's single DOCG is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane, drawn from the northern Teramo hills. International varieties like Sauvignon Blanc fall outside the main DOC designations and are typically labeled under Abruzzo IGT or Terre di Chieti IGT. Soils across the region run primarily to calcareous clay in the river valleys and foothills, well-suited to retaining moisture and delivering structure to white wines.
