Tasting notes

The Trebbiano co-fermented with Montepulciano is what makes Rosh unusual — it sharpens the wine's cranberry and cherry fruit and keeps the whole thing lively and fresh at 12% ABV. Whole-cluster semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete gives it a juicy, slightly peppery lift that disappears from most Montepulciano at this price.

Rosh takes its name from the local dialect phrase 'Lu Rosh,' meaning 'The Red.' It is a blend of 90% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and 10% Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, sourced from organically farmed vines in the hills of Pescara province around Villa Celiera, at roughly 700 meters above sea level within the Gran Sasso National Park. The Trebbiano co-fermented alongside the Montepulciano adds brightness and lifts the acidity without diluting the wine's depth.

Grapes are hand harvested and whole-cluster fermented semi-carbonically in concrete tanks with daily punch-downs for approximately one week. After pressing, the wine ages on its lees in concrete before spending additional time in steel and fiberglass containers. It is bottled unfiltered with no added sulfites. No fining, no clarification — just grape and time.

The result is a light-to-medium-bodied red with vivid cherry and cranberry fruit, a touch of spice and earthiness on the nose, and juicy, mouthwatering acidity with soft tannins. At 12% ABV it is easy to reach for and designed to be drunk with food, though it has enough substance to hold its own on its own.

Rosh is made for the table. Serve it slightly chilled alongside pizza, pasta with tomato-based sauces, grilled lamb skewers (arrosticini), or a board of cured meats and aged pecorino. Its bright acidity and low tannins make it forgiving with a wide range of simple, savory dishes.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Lammidia

Lammidia was founded in 2013 by childhood friends Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, both from Pescara, Abruzzo. The two had known each other since age three, reconnected after university, and decided to make wine together despite no formal winemaking training, without consulting agronomists or oenologists. Their first fermentation attempt in 2010 failed to start, and the project's name — Lammidia, from the Abruzzese dialect word 'mmidia meaning 'the evil eye' — came from grandmother Antonia's folk ritual performed over the stuck ferment. It apparently worked.

The winery operates out of a converted farmhouse at Contrada Vagnola in Villa Celiera, Pescara province, at roughly 700 meters above sea level inside the Gran Sasso National Park. Lammidia works with approximately 5 hectares of vines farmed organically with many biodynamic practices. The majority of plantings are Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, with smaller parcels of Pinot Noir, Barbera, Pecorino, and Moscato. They do not till the vineyard soil, instead cutting surrounding plant life and leaving it as mulch to retain moisture.

All Lammidia wines are made with spontaneous native yeast fermentation and no added sulfites. There is no fining, no clarification, and no filtration. For Rosh, grapes are hand harvested, whole-cluster fermented semi-carbonically in concrete tanks with daily punch-downs for approximately one week, then pressed and aged on the lees in concrete before moving to steel and fiberglass containers before bottling. Their motto is 'uva e basta' — grapes and that's it.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on the Adriatic side of central Italy, bordered to the west by the Apennine Mountains and to the east by the sea. More than 65% of the region is mountainous, and the interplay between mountain elevations and the Adriatic coast creates significant diurnal temperature swings that preserve acidity in the grapes. The climate is broadly Mediterranean along the coast and continental in the mountainous interior, with the Apennines blocking many westerly storms while leaving vineyards exposed to eastern weather systems.

Soils across Abruzzo are predominantly clay-limestone, with sandy and stony patches at higher elevations in the Pescara and Teramo provinces. The key appellations are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC (the regional rosé), and the top-tier Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG. Montepulciano and Trebbiano are the dominant native varieties, accounting for the vast majority of plantings. Lammidia's vineyards in the hills of Pescara, around Villa Celiera at approximately 700 meters elevation inside the Gran Sasso National Park, sit in one of the more elevated and cooler subzones of the region.
