Tasting notes

At 11% ABV and with only an overnight maceration, this Chardonnay skips the butter and oak entirely and goes straight to tart green apple, pineapple, and a faint earthy funk. The concrete-only aging keeps the wine lean and electric, with enough textural grip from the skin contact to hold your attention through the bottle.

Sciatto[L] is 100% Chardonnay grown in Contrada Vagnola, Villa Celiera, in the province of Pescara at around 700 meters above sea level inside the Gran Sasso National Park. The grapes are hand-harvested, given an overnight maceration on the skins, then fermented spontaneously in concrete tanks using only indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged in concrete, bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfites and an ABV of 11%.

The result is a taut, high-acid white with a slightly hazy appearance and real textural presence from the skin contact. Aromas lean toward fresh pineapple and green apple with a faint earthy, lactic undercurrent. On the palate it stays light and energetic, with a lemony snap on the finish that keeps it lively from start to end.

Sciatto translates loosely from Italian as "scruffy" or "sloppy" — a self-aware label that suits the wine's informal, direct character. No oak, no additions, no corrections. What you get is Chardonnay expressing cool-altitude Abruzzo without any conventional cosmetics.

The high acidity and light body make this a natural match for raw or simply dressed seafood — oysters, crudo, or grilled calamari with lemon. It also works well with soft fresh cheeses like burrata or ricotta, where the wine's citrus edge cuts through the fat. Avoid rich or creamy dishes that would flatten the wine's energy.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Lammidia

Lammidia was founded by Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, childhood friends from the Pescara area who reconnected after university and decided to make wine together starting in 2010. Neither had formal winemaking training and they work without agronomists or oenologists, learning through direct experimentation. Their first fermentation failed to start, and local folklore holds that a grandmother performed a ritual to dispel the 'mmidia — the Abruzzese dialect word for 'evil eye' — after which fermentation began. The name Lammidia comes from that story.

The winery operates out of converted farmhouse facilities in Villa Celiera, Contrada Vagnola, at approximately 700 meters above sea level within the Gran Sasso National Park, province of Pescara. According to RAW WINE, the farm covers 8 hectares total with 6 hectares under vine. All grapes are dry-farmed and hand-harvested. Farming follows organic and biodynamic practices. Lammidia also sources fruit from trusted growers who farm without pesticides, herbicides, or systemic treatments.

Lammidia's cellar approach varies by cuvee but consistently avoids additions, fining, and filtration. Davide and Marco designed and built their own concrete fermentation tanks. For Sciatto[L], the process is overnight skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation in concrete with indigenous yeasts, aging in concrete, and bottling with no added sulfites. The winery produces approximately 50,000 bottles across roughly 30 different cuvees, all carrying the house motto 'uva e basta' — grapes and that's it.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on the central Adriatic coast of Italy, flanked by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The region encompasses four provinces — L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and Chieti — each with distinct elevation profiles and microclimates. The Apennines, which include Corno Grande at 2,912 meters (the highest peak in the Apennines), block storms from the west and create a pronounced rain shadow. Coastal vineyards experience a warm, dry Mediterranean climate; those further inland and at altitude, like those around Villa Celiera in Pescara province, have a more continental profile with cold winters and significant day-to-night temperature swings that preserve grape acidity.

Abruzzo's dominant DOC appellations are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (red), Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (white), and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo (rosato). The region's single DOCG is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane, covering the northern Teramo hills. Soils in the hillside vineyard zones tend toward calcareous clay and limestone, which provide drainage and structure. Chardonnay is grown in Abruzzo but sits outside the primary DOC frameworks, typically bottled as IGT. The province of Pescara, where Lammidia is based, is noted for higher-altitude sites that produce wines with more defined acidity than the warmer, flatter Chieti province to the south.
