Tasting notes

The Miscela is one of the most genuinely idiosyncratic rosés in Italy — tart raspberry, wild strawberry, and a savory brine note from Montepulciano skin contact, all at 10.5% ABV. It drinks more like a chilled red than a conventional rosé, with real grip and a citrus-edged acidity that keeps every sip moving.

  • Style: Dry, light-bodied rosé; hazy salmon-pink; tart red fruit, brine, and white pepper; 10.5% ABV
  • Grapes & Terroir: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino; organically farmed; clay and limestone soils; Villa Celiera, Pescara province, ~714m elevation
  • Winemaking: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts; blend of 10-20 cuvees drawn from amphora, fiberglass, and steel tanks; no added SO2; unfiltered; unfined
  • Serving: Serve at 46-50F; no decant needed; drink young
  • Pairing: Grilled sardines, anchovy salads, cold cuts, fresh ricotta, spiced grain dishes
  • Similar To: For fans of Gamay and skin-contact whites who want something tart, low-alcohol, and savory

Miscela means "mixture" in Italian, and this wine lives up to the name. Lammidia's Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani blend wines drawn from the lees of multiple tanks — amphora, fiberglass, and steel — producing a rosato that pulls from across the entire vintage. The result is part red, part white, part rosé, and entirely its own thing at just 10.5% ABV.

The grapes — Montepulciano, Trebbiano, and Pecorino — each bring something specific: Montepulciano provides color and structure, Trebbiano delivers freshness and lift, and Pecorino contributes aromatics and acidity. Vines average around 25 years old and are grown in clay and limestone soils in the hills of Pescara province, at approximately 700 meters above sea level near Villa Celiera, inside the Gran Sasso National Park.

Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. No sulfites are added at any stage. The wine is unfiltered and unfined, which means expect some cloudiness and natural sediment — both signs of an untouched, living wine.

This is a wine meant to be drunk cold, with food, without ceremony. It is energetic, tart, and low in alcohol — the kind of bottle that disappears before anyone notices it's gone.

Serve well chilled alongside grilled sardines, anchovy-dressed salads, or cold cuts with pickled vegetables. The wine's tartness and low alcohol also make it a practical match for spiced grain dishes and fresh cheeses like ricotta or fior di latte. Works particularly well as a table wine for a long, casual meal.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Lammidia

Lammidia is based in Villa Celiera, a small village in Pescara province, at approximately 714 meters above sea level inside the Gran Sasso National Park. The project was founded by childhood friends Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani, who reconnected after university and began making wine together in 2010. Their first fermentation stalled, leading them to call on a grandmother known for performing the Abruzzese folk ritual to dispel 'la mmidia' — the evil eye. The fermentation restarted, and the name stuck. Their first official commercial release was in 2013.

Gentile and Giuliani work with organically farmed grapes, sourcing from roughly five hectares across multiple sites, including fruit from trusted growers who farm without pesticides, herbicides, or systemic treatments. Varieties include Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and others. Vines in the Miscela blend average around 25 years old and are planted in clay and limestone soils. The traditional Pergola training system is used in some sites to protect grapes from summer heat.

In the cellar, Lammidia works with a mix of vessels including concrete tanks, amphora, fiberglass, and steel — some of which Gentile and Giuliani designed and built themselves. All fermentations are spontaneous using indigenous yeasts. No sulfites are added at any stage. Wines are neither fined nor filtered. The Miscela Rosato is assembled from the lees of multiple tanks across the vintage — sometimes drawing from 10 to 20 different cuvees — resulting in a blend that shifts slightly in composition from year to year. The winery's motto, printed on every bottle, is 'uva e basta' — grapes and nothing else.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on Italy's central Adriatic coast, bounded to the west by the Apennine Mountains — including the Gran Sasso massif, the highest peak in the Apennines at 2,912 meters — and to the east by the Adriatic Sea. The region spans four provinces: Teramo in the north, Pescara in the center, Chieti in the south, and L'Aquila in the mountainous interior. Most vineyards are planted on rolling hills between 300 and 700 meters of elevation, where clay-limestone soils dominate and significant day-to-night temperature variation helps preserve acidity. The Pescara province, where Lammidia is based, features a mix of clay, sand, and limestone soils at higher elevations near the Gran Sasso foothills.

The two principal DOC wines of Abruzzo are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (red) and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (white), both widely exported. The only DOCG in the region is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane, located around the town of Teramo on clay and limestone soils in the north. Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is the region's signature rosato appellation, made from Montepulciano with minimal skin contact to achieve a vivid cherry-red color. Pecorino, a native white grape with high natural acidity and aromatic complexity, has seen growing interest both inside and outside the region in recent decades.
