Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

So Far Out

So Far Out is a winery based in Los Alamos, Santa Barbara County, with a tasting room at Martian Ranch. It was founded as a joint venture between three people with complementary expertise across California's wine industry: Andrew Jones, Mike Testa, and Jamil Williams.

Andrew Jones is the founder of Field Recordings, an acclaimed natural wine label based in Paso Robles known for working with unusual varieties and minimal-intervention production across the Central Coast. Jones started making wine in his attic at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and has been a consistent presence on the forward edge of California natural wine. In his professional life he works as a nursery fieldman, planning and planting vineyards across the state, which gives him an unusual perspective on what Santa Barbara County's soils and climate can support.

Mike Testa is a fifth-generation farmer from Santa Maria who built his career in wine at E&J Gallo before returning to Santa Barbara County and becoming a partner at Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, the largest vineyard management firm in the county. Through this role, Testa has spent years planting and tending unusual varieties — Mondeuse, Marselan, Tibouren, Clairette Blanche, and others — across Santa Barbara's best sites, often persuading vineyard owners to embrace diversity beyond the standard commercial varieties. His organic farming emphasis and personal properties are the backbone of So Far Out's fruit sourcing.

Jamil Williams rounds out the team with deep experience in wine retail and distribution, having worked at the iconic Silverlake Wine in Los Angeles and with importer Amy Atwood Selections. So Far Out's mission is clearly stated: 100% organic, 100% Santa Barbara County, and accessible to all. Every wine in the range comes from certified organic fruit.

Wine region

California, United States

Santa Barbara County sits at the southern end of California's Central Coast, roughly 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Unlike most of California's major wine regions, which run north-south parallel to the Pacific, the Santa Ynez and Santa Maria river valleys in Santa Barbara County run east-west — directly channelling cool Pacific air, fog, and afternoon breezes deep into the interior. This transverse orientation is the defining feature of Santa Barbara County viticulture and gives the region its unusually cool growing conditions relative to its latitude.

Los Alamos, where the grapes for the So Far Out Flood Light Snow Pet-Nat are grown, sits in the eastern section of the Santa Ynez Valley AVA, at the junction between the windier, cooler western end of the valley and the warmer, more sheltered interior. The Los Alamos area has developed a strong identity in California's natural wine scene over the past decade, with a cluster of small wineries, tasting rooms, and growers focused on organically farmed, non-mainstream varieties. Mike Testa's vineyard management work through Coastal Vineyard Care Associates has been central to introducing unusual Italian, French, and Spanish varieties to this terrain — including Mondeuse, Clairette Blanche, Marselan, and others.

The soils around Los Alamos are predominantly sandy loam and diatomaceous earth, naturally low in fertility and well-draining. These conditions impose stress on vines, naturally limiting yields and concentrating flavour without irrigation pressure. The marine-influenced climate produces grapes with high natural acidity and relatively low sugar accumulation, making the area well suited to aromatic white varieties and lighter-framed reds, as well as naturally sparkling wines where freshness is a priority. Santa Barbara County has become one of California's most experimental and organically progressive wine zones, with a particularly strong pét-nat and natural wine scene centred around Los Alamos.
