Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Corbeaux" 2023

Price: $200.00
Tasting notes

The vines are planted in a very shallow topsoil close to the limestone bedrock, conferring a wine of grace, with detailed, lifted fruit and a persistent stamp of mineral-infused fruit on the finish. Corbeaux abuts the Mazis-Chambertin grand cru and is similarly muscular in style.

Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils is a 7-hectare estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy, run by Pierre Boillot, who took over from his father Lucien and farms across 15 to 16 different appellations in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Les Corbeaux is a 1er Cru planted tight to the southern edge of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, just above the road to Morey and next to Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, with Boillot's parcel planted in 1960. The wine is 100% Pinot Noir. Grapes are normally destalked 100% with up to 15% whole stems retained when very ripe, with one or two punch-downs per day during 20 to 25 days of maceration, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered.

Serve with tournedos Rossini if you are feeling truly gourmet and live in a state where foie gras is legal. Roast duck, game birds, and aged hard cheeses also work well with mature Gevrey-Chambertin from the Côte de Nuits.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils

Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils is a 7-hectare domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. Pierre inherited this domaine from his father Lucien, whose name it still carries, and worked together with his brother Louis for years before they parted ways and split up the family holdings. The family business has been steered by Pierre and Sophie Boillot since 2003.

Since 2003 Pierre Boillot has been farming the vineyards according to a sustainable principle, but without certification. In addition to retaining the original cellars in Gevrey-Chambertin, Pierre has instituted a rigorous revitalizing of the soils and vines in all of his vineyards.

The grapes are mostly fully destemmed, but in some cuvées there is a proportion of whole bunches. The wines are matured in François Frères barrels. Pierre Boillot does not use too much new wood: 10 to 15 percent for village wines and 20 to 30 percent for the premiers crus. The wines are assembled in cuve for a month and a half and are neither fined nor filtered, with total SO2 levels at a low but strictly necessary 30 mg/l.

Wine region

Burgundy, France

In eastern central France, Burgundy is nestled between the wine regions of Champagne to the north, the Jura to the east, the Loire to the west, and the Rhône to the south. This is the terroir for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The southeast-facing hillside between Dijon in the north and Maranges in the south is known as the Côte d'Or, or golden slope, comprising two main sections composed of limestone and clay soils: the Côte de Nuits in the north and the Côte de Beaune in the south.

Both areas produce whites and reds, although the Côte de Beaune produces more white wine and the Côte de Nuits more red. The vineyard sits on the prime saddle of mid-slope land running between Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, where a large percentage of the Côte de Nuits's famous grand cru vineyards are located, including the Chambertins. Corbeaux abuts the Mazis-Chambertin grand cru.
