Tasting notes

This is Cannonau stripped down to its coastal essence: the sandy soils and proximity to the sea in Villasimius pull out a saline, mineral quality that inland versions rarely show. Short maceration and lees aging in used barriques add texture without weight, keeping the floral and fresh-fruit character front and center.

Meigamma is a 1.1-hectare estate in Villasimius, Cagliari Province, run by Barbara and Giuseppe Pusceddu. The vineyard sits on sandy soils approximately 600 meters from the Mediterranean Sea, within the Capo Ferrato subzone of the Cannonau di Sardegna DOC. Grapes are farmed without herbicides, pesticides, or any synthetic inputs, and are harvested entirely by hand.

This rosato is made from 100% Cannonau vinified in rosé with a brief maceration on the skins. Fermentation is spontaneous using native yeasts, and the wine ages in contact with noble lees in used barriques. No fining or filtration is applied, and no sulfites are added until bottling.

Cannonau is genetically identical to Grenache and is the most widely planted red variety in Sardinia. In coastal Villasimius, sandy soils and constant sea breezes moderate the variety's naturally high alcohol and amplify its saline, floral character. The Capo Ferrato subzone covers the southeastern communes of Castiadas, Muravera, San Vito, Villaputzu, and Villasimius.

The 2017 vintage is a still, dry rosé. Expect fragrant flowers, fresh red fruit, and a saline finish typical of this coastal terroir. Best served at 50-54°F.

Works well with grilled fish, seafood pasta, and octopus salad. The wine's salinity and fresh acidity also cut through mild sheep's milk cheeses like young pecorino sardo. Good alongside vegetable-forward first courses or as an aperitivo.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Meigamma

Barbara and Giuseppe Pusceddu founded Meigamma in 2006 in Villasimius, in the province of Cagliari. The estate covers 1.1 hectares planted with Cannonau, Carignano, and Muristellu, with Nasco and Nuragus more recently added. The name meigamma means 'nap after lunch' in Sardinian dialect, a phrase the Pusceddus use to describe their slow-production philosophy that extends to wine, olive oil, honey, and vegetables.

From the outset, the vineyard has been managed without pesticides, herbicides, or any synthetic products. The vines grow on sandy soils approximately 600 meters from the Mediterranean Sea, within the Capo Ferrato subzone. All grapes are harvested by hand.

In the cellar, Meigamma works with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts only. No selected yeasts, fining agents, or filtration are used. Sulfites are not added until bottling. The Rosato undergoes a brief skin maceration, then ages on noble lees in used barriques before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Wine region

Sardegna, Italy

Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, located approximately 240 kilometers off the west coast of mainland Italy. Its wine regions span the entire island, with a hot, dry Mediterranean climate tempered along the coasts by sea breezes. Soils vary significantly across the island, ranging from granite and granitic sands in the southeast to limestone and clay further inland. The island is one of Italy's five autonomous regions, a status that has helped preserve its distinct portfolio of native grape varieties.

The Cannonau di Sardegna DOC was established in 1972 and covers the entire island for both red and rosé wines made from Cannonau, the local name for Grenache. Three recognized subzones produce Cannonau of particular distinction: Nepente di Oliena in the eastern Nuoro province, Jerzu in the Jerzu and Cardedu communes, and Capo Ferrato in the southeastern communes of Castiadas, Muravera, San Vito, Villaputzu, and Villasimius. The Capo Ferrato subzone is characterized by sandy and granitic soils and proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, which moderates temperatures and contributes a saline quality to the wines. Cannonau represents the largest vineyard area of any single DOC on the island, accounting for just over a quarter of all plantings.
