Mendocino Ridge Syrah 2020

Toshokan • 750ml

$34.95

Toshokan Mendocino Ridge Syrah is a red natural wine made from 100% Syrah grapes. Winemaker's notes: Crushed violet, iron, graphite, juniper. Earthy minerality dominates in this savory expression of Syrah, lifted lightly by pretty floral notes. Not surprising given the cool-climate Mendocino Ridge site. Drinking excellent now and will continue to evolve over the years to come. Fermented whole cluster in open-top containers with native yeast. (source: Toshokan)

The Producer: Toshokan

The name Toshokan means library in Japanese. To us, winemaking is a lot like curating a library. Except instead of dealing with human knowledge, we’re dealing with place, time, and people. Each bottle of wine is a window into the vineyard site and broader region, the weather patterns during the vintage, and the people that farm the grapes and make the wine.

In keeping with this idea, most of our bottlings are single-vineyard, and we only source grapes from thoughtful, conscientious growers in special places throughout Northern California. In the cellar, we take a minimalist approach to keep our wines pure and expressive of site: all our wines are spontaneously fermented by the wild yeasts and bacteria naturally present on the grapes and we add very little sulfur. Not surprising given our winemaker Tim got his start at Donkey & Goat and Matthiasson.

Our wines are lower in alcohol and meant to be enjoyed with friends and food.

The Region: Mendocino

Nestled among the native fir, madrone, and redwood trees on the rugged coastal ridges of Mendocino County, the Potato Patch block of Perli Vineyard is a stunning site that produces excellent cool climate Syrah. Planted in 1999 by Steve Alden, one of the pioneers of the Mendocino Ridge AVA. Our rows are interspersed with a small amount of Grenache Noir and Viognier. (source: Toshokan)

Shipping & Returns

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HEAT-RELATED ISSUES. WE OFFER ICE-PACKS AS ONE OF OUR SHIPPING OPTIONS. PLEASE SELECT THAT OPTION SHOULD YOU THINK THAT THERE COULD BE HEAT-RELATED ISSUES.

Stress Free Shipping

At Primal Wine we like to be transparent about everything we do. When it comes to buying products online, shipping is the most important aspect, and that’s why we take great care in shipping and handling your order using only 100% recycled packaging material. We don't ship to: LA, KS, MS, AL, WI, KY, NH, UT, SD, MI, AR.

Re-shipping

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, which will be determined based on quantity and shipping address. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Important Compliance Requirements

UPS and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older.

Important COVID Update

UPS and FedEx declared that in order to protect their workers and customers, they no longer require a signature on delivery. This does not mean they will drop a wine box at your door. UPS delivery workers will make sure the person receiving the wine is 21 years or older, and will ask for his/her name - only then do they deliver the package.

Shipping Rates and Options

An important premise: wine bottles are heavy – about 3 pounds each – and shipping is expensive! Primal Wine is not backed by venture capital money – we proudly are a mom and pop independent online store – and we must charge shipping on all orders under a certain amount, otherwise we wouldn’t be in business. However, we try our best to offer you very competitive shipping rates and frequent free shipping discount. Please subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop!

Return Policy

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact us via e-mail at hello@primalwine.com between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Sunday, we would like to understand and try to solve your concerns. Returning wine is not allowed by law, and so we might make arrangements for a refund if appropriate
