Description

Louis-Antoine Luyt's Pipeño Tinto is a natural red wine from Chile, crafted in the traditional pipeño style, which historically refers to simple, young wines made for local consumption. This wine is produced from the País grape, from old vines. The grapes are hand-harvested, manually destemmed using a zaranda (a traditional sieve) and fermented in open wooden vats known as lagares. This approach allows for spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is then aged briefly in pipas (large wooden barrels), maintaining its fresh and vibrant profile.

Why we like it

Light ruby red, notes of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry; light-bodied with bright acidity, showcasing flavors of fresh red berries and a hint of spice, leading to a refreshing finish.

Wine region

Maule Valley, Chile

The Maule Valley is celebrated for its ancient, ungrafted vineyards of País, a grape brought by Spanish colonists in the 16th century. While País has historically been overlooked, it has gained recognition in recent years, particularly in natural winemaking circles. The Maule Valley is notable for its dry farming methods, especially in areas with old vines. These practices, combined with the valley’s rich agricultural tradition, result in expressive and sustainable wines. Increasingly, producers in the Maule Valley are embracing organic and biodynamic viticulture.

From robust reds to elegant whites, the Maule Valley offers diverse styles. In recent years, it has become a hub for natural winemaking, with winemakers exploring minimal-intervention methods and showcasing the authenticity of the region’s ancient vines. The Maule Valley represents both tradition and innovation in Chilean winemaking. Its rich history and a growing emphasis on quality and sustainability have made it a focal point for wine enthusiasts seeking authentic, terroir-driven wines.
