Tasting notes

Frappato at its most transparent: wild strawberry, pomegranate, and violet on the nose with a bright, mouthwatering acidity that keeps every sip refreshing. The stainless steel aging and short maceration preserve the grape's natural fragrance without adding weight, making this one of the more food-flexible reds from Sicily.

Tami' is a project Arianna Occhipinti launched with a group of friends in 2009 to produce accessible, naturally made wines from organic Sicilian vineyards. The Frappato is sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Vittoria area of southeastern Sicily, where loose red sandy soils sit over limestone and a tufa layer at roughly 90 centimeters depth. The appellation is Terre Siciliane IGT, which allows for the single-varietal, minimal-intervention approach used here.

Winemaking is kept deliberately simple. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and left in contact with the skins for one week before being transferred to stainless steel, where the wine ages for six months. No oak is used at any stage. Though Arianna oversees the winemaking, the wines are not produced at her Occhipinti cellar.

Frappato is a thin-skinned, low-yield Sicilian grape genetically linked to Sangiovese. It produces pale, translucent red wines with naturally high acidity, soft tannins, and pronounced floral and red-fruit aromatics. In the Vittoria area, the sandy soils amplify its light, aromatic qualities. The result is a wine built for the table rather than the cellar, best enjoyed within a few years of harvest.

Frappato's high acidity and soft tannins make it a natural match for tomato-based pasta, grilled sardines, or a plate of salumi and aged pecorino. It handles herb-driven dishes well: think roasted chicken with oregano, caponata, or grilled vegetables with olive oil. Serve it slightly cool, around 58-62F, to keep the aromatics fresh.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Tami'

Arianna Occhipinti began her winemaking career at 16 working harvests at her uncle Giusto Occhipinti's estate, COS, in Vittoria. She studied enology and viticulture at the University of Milan, then returned to Sicily to establish her own label. She harvested her first vintage in 2004 and released her first commercial wines in 2006 at age 24. Her estate covers 25 hectares in the Vittoria area and is certified organic, planted exclusively with indigenous Sicilian varieties: Frappato and Nero d'Avola for reds, Albanello and Zibibbo for whites.

Tami' is a separate project Occhipinti started in 2009 together with friends who own organic vineyards near Siracusa. The project began as a shop in Siracusa selling locally made goods including wine, and expanded to include a dedicated wine label. Fruit for the Tami' wines comes from those friends' organically farmed vineyards, not from Occhipinti's own estate. She oversees the winemaking, which follows the same low-intervention principles as her flagship label.

For the Tami' Frappato, winemaking is straightforward: hand-harvested grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts, macerated on the skins for one week, then aged entirely in stainless steel for six months before bottling. No oak contact, no fining agents mentioned. The approach is designed to produce a fresh, aromatic wine that expresses the Frappato grape and Vittoria's sandy soils without added complexity from wood or extended aging.

Wine region

Sicily, Italy

Sicily is Italy's largest wine region by vineyard area, with roughly 98,000 hectares under vine. The island holds 23 DOCs, one DOCG (Cerasuolo di Vittoria, elevated to that status in 2005), and the broad Terre Siciliane IGT designation that covers the entire island. The southeastern corner, anchored by the town of Vittoria in Ragusa province, is the home of Frappato and the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, Sicily's only DOCG, which blends 30-50% Frappato with 50-70% Nero d'Avola.

The Vittoria area sits on the Iblean Plateau, one of the hottest and driest zones on the island, with altitudes ranging from near sea level to around 300 meters. Soils are primarily loose red sand over limestone and a tufa layer at roughly 90 centimeters, which regulates vine water balance and contributes to the light, aromatic profile characteristic of wines from this zone. Sea breezes from the nearby Mediterranean temper summer heat and help retain the natural acidity in Frappato. The Terre Siciliane IGT designation, with fewer restrictions than DOC or DOCG rules, gives producers like Tami' the flexibility to make single-varietal, minimal-intervention wines.
