Product description

Folicello Lambruscone Pét Nat 2023 is a sparkling natural red wine from Castelfranco Emilia in Emilia-Romagna, crafted by Marco Giovannini and Antonella Fontana. This old-school Lambrusco blends certified organic Lambrusco Grasparossa with Malbo Gentile, grown on composite soils of clay, silt, and sand. Using the Metodo Ancestrale, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and completes its effervescence through bottle re-fermentation. Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Folicello

Folicello is a certified organic winery established in the early 1980s by Marco Giovannini and Antonella Fontana in Castelfranco Emilia, within the Modena province of Emilia-Romagna. What began as a personal project—producing healthy wine for family and friends—has evolved into a respected natural wine estate known for its authentic Lambrusco expressions.

The winery operates a 10-hectare estate on the plains typical of Lambrusco production, with a modern cellar designed for artisanal vinification. Marco and Antonella's approach extends beyond organic certification requirements, embracing fully natural practices in both vineyard and cellar. The estate is energy self-sufficient through solar power, uses fermentation byproducts for vine treatments, and maintains biodiversity throughout the property.

Folicello focuses exclusively on indigenous Emilia-Romagna varieties: Lambrusco Grasparossa, Malbo Gentile, and Sangiovese for reds; Pignoletto, Montuni, and Pinot Bianco for whites. All wines are vinified without sulfur dioxide at any stage, including bottling. Native yeast fermentation, no fining, and no filtration characterize every bottling—practices that predated the natural wine movement's mainstream recognition.

The Lambruscone represents Folicello's interpretation of traditional Lambrusco Grasparossa. The name references the grape's robust character, with "one" as an augmentative suffix indicating size and intensity. The blend with Malbo Gentile, a permitted variety in the Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC, adds color depth and aromatic complexity while maintaining the signature tannic structure of Grasparossa.

Beyond wine, Folicello produces organic grape juices, jams, and operates a dedicated vinegar production facility—extensions of Marco and Antonella's philosophy that quality agriculture encompasses more than a single product.

Wine region

Emilia–Romagna, Italy

Emilia-Romagna stretches across northern Italy from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennine Mountains, ranking among the country's most historically significant wine regions. The area's viticultural heritage dates to the seventh century BC, when Etruscans first cultivated vines in the fertile Po Valley. Romans later transported wines along the Via Aemilia, the ancient road that gives the region its name.

The region encompasses approximately 53,000 hectares of vineyards, producing roughly equal quantities of red and white wines. Emilia-Romagna's terroir features composite soils of clay, silt, and sand, with climatic conditions moderated by the Adriatic Sea providing warm summers and temperate winters. This combination creates ideal growing conditions for the region's diverse grape varieties.

Lambrusco remains Emilia-Romagna's most recognized wine, though the name encompasses a family of related grape varieties rather than a single cultivar. The region hosts five distinct Lambrusco DOCs: Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Lambrusco di Modena, and Lambrusco Reggiano. Each appellation produces wines with distinct characteristics reflecting specific terroir and grape clones.

Lambrusco Grasparossa, centered around Castelvetro di Modena, produces the most tannic and full-bodied expressions of the Lambrusco family. The deep purplish-red wines carry pronounced aromas of violets, blackberries, and fresh almonds. Traditional producers increasingly employ the Metodo Ancestrale—bottle re-fermentation with native yeasts—to create authentic, artisanal sparkling wines rather than tank-fermented commercial versions.

Beyond Lambrusco, Emilia-Romagna produces notable Sangiovese di Romagna reds and Trebbiano whites. Albana di Romagna became Italy's first white wine to receive DOCG classification in 1987.
