Product description

Marto Crazy Crazy Pet-Nat 2024 is a pétillant naturel produced by Marto, the label of Martin Wörner, from organically farmed vineyards in Flonheim, Rheinhessen, Germany. The 2024 vintage is a field blend of Scheurebe, Kerner, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau, hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. The wine is bottled before primary fermentation is complete, trapping carbon dioxide in the bottle to create its natural sparkle. Marto Crazy Crazy Pet-Nat 2024 is unfined, unfiltered, and made with no added sulfites or other additions, with some skin contact lending color and texture to the finished wine.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Marto

Marto is the label of Martin Wörner, a winemaker from the village of Flonheim in the western Rheinhessen. His family has farmed in the area across multiple generations. His grandfather was among the first growers in Flonheim to bottle wine under his own name rather than selling to the local cooperative. Martin's father moved away from winemaking, growing strawberries and selling organic grapes to other producers while maintaining the family vineyards. Martin returned to the estate in 2015 and launched his first vintage under the Marto label in 2017, working from a small cellar beneath the family home that had previously served as a beer tavern.

Before starting Marto, Martin trained with two formative estates. In 2015 he worked at Gut Oggau in Burgenland, Austria, and in 2016 at Matassa in the Roussillon with winemaker Tom Lubbe, an experience he has cited as central to his understanding of aromatic varieties and the primacy of vineyard work over cellar intervention. He has spoken about how his conventional wine school training, focused on chemical correction of perceived faults, was fundamentally at odds with what he encountered at these estates.

The Marto estate has grown from an initial 8 hectares to 13 hectares according to recent accounts, planted to a wide range of varieties including Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe, Bacchus, Würzer, Kerner, Faber, Riesling, Silvaner, Portugieser, Regent, and newer plantings of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Organic farming practices include cover crops of radishes, beetroot, and turnips, sheep grazing between rows, and no tillage. His partner Alanna Lagamba, who makes wines under her own Vin de la Gamba label, contributes to the work at Marto. No additions are used across the entire range: no sulfites, no fining, no filtration.

On Primal Wine, the Marto range includes Marto Weiss Rheinischer Landwein and Marto Manna Rheinischer Landwein. Explore these and more in our best-sellers collection.

Wine region

Rheinhessen, Germany

Rheinhessen is the largest wine region in Germany by planted area, covering approximately 26,500 hectares across 136 villages in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It stretches from the Rhine's western bank near Mainz and Worms in the north and east, to the border of the Nahe wine region to the west. The landscape is gentle and agricultural, with vineyards interspersed among fields of grain, vegetables, and orchard fruit. The city of Mainz sits at the region's northeastern corner, with Alzey as the main inland town in the western portion where the village of Flonheim is located.

Soils vary significantly across the region. In the western area around Flonheim, red sandstone and quartzite are dominant, giving wines from this zone a mineral and slightly textural quality. Elsewhere across Rheinhessen, loess, limestone, clay, and marl all contribute to a stylistically diverse wine landscape. The climate is among the driest in Germany, with annual rainfall averaging around 500 millimeters, and warm, elongated summers that allow aromatic varieties to achieve full ripeness. The Nahe hills to the west and the Rhine to the east provide natural shelter, reducing the risk of frost and rain during the growing season.

The aromatic white varieties at the heart of the Marto Crazy Crazy Pet-Nat 2024 blend, Scheurebe, Kerner, and Müller-Thurgau, are deeply embedded in Rheinhessen's viticultural identity. Many of these crossings were developed in the early twentieth century at research stations in the region, with Georg Scheu, working in Alzey, responsible for both Scheurebe and Faberrebe. These varieties were widely planted across Rheinhessen in the postwar period and remain core to the region's character, particularly in the hands of producers who approach them with minimal intervention.
