Tasting notes

This wine is briny and savory with a floral Moscatel top note and a textured citrus core — it drinks like orange wine but stays fresh like a white. The free-run-only approach and clay amphora aging keep it light on its feet while giving it enough grip to pair with food.

Blan d'Anzera is a skin-contact white made from Macabeo and Moscatel grown in Blancafort, Conca de Barberà, at around 420 meters of altitude on calcareous and mudstone soils. Only free-run juice is used — the grapes are crushed but never pressed — and that juice goes directly into clay amphora to ferment with native yeasts. After approximately 5 days of skin contact, the wine ages for six months on its lees before bottling without fining, filtration, or added sulfites.

The result sits at the intersection of aromatic white and textured orange wine. Moscatel provides the floral lift and stone fruit character; Macabeo grounds it with structure and citrus-driven acidity. The clay amphora preserves freshness while adding a subtle mineral salinity that is a hallmark of wines from this region.

Jordi Llorens farms organically and biodynamically across six sites around Blancafort, with yields averaging roughly 1 kg of fruit per vine. The wine carries no DO designation, labeled instead as Vi de Taula, giving Llorens full freedom in winemaking approach. No additives of any kind are used at any stage.

Works well with salt cod preparations, grilled sardines, or pa amb tomàquet with aged Manchego. The saline, citrus-driven profile also cuts through fried foods and holds up to anchovies or cured fish. Serve at 50-54F to keep the floral aromatics intact.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Jordi Llorens

Jordi Llorens opened Celler Jordi Llorens in 2008 in Blancafort, a village in Conca de Barberà about 15 km from Montblanc. He is an eighth-generation farmer whose family has worked the land — vines, olives, almonds, and livestock — since 1779. Trained as a geologist, Llorens applies that knowledge directly to understanding the limestone and clay soils across his six vineyard sites. He did not sell wine commercially until the 2012 vintage, partly encouraged by neighboring producer Joan Ramon Escoda.

Llorens farms approximately 16 hectares across six locations near Blancafort at elevations ranging from 400 to 650 meters, all on predominantly limestone soils. He practices biodynamics in both vineyard and cellar, allows grasses and cover crops to establish between rows for soil health and biodiversity, and achieves average yields of around 1 kg of fruit per vine. No chemical treatments are used.

In the cellar, Llorens uses only native yeasts, adds no sulfites or other additives, and does not filter or fine his wines. He built a new cellar in 2017 equipped with ten underground clay jars, which are used primarily for the white and orange wines. Blan d'Anzera is made from free-run juice only — no pressing — fermented in clay amphora with brief skin contact before aging six months on lees.

Wine region

Conca de Barberà, Spain

Conca de Barberà is a DO located in the northern part of Tarragona province in Catalonia, centered on the river basin formed by the Francolí and Anguera rivers, with the capital at Montblanc. Vineyards sit at elevations ranging from 350 to 900 meters, making it the highest-altitude wine region in inland Catalonia. The climate is transitional — Mediterranean warmth moderated by continental influence from the neighboring Lleida plateau — producing significant day-to-night temperature swings that help grapes retain natural acidity. Annual rainfall averages between 450 and 550 mm, and temperatures can range from below 0°C in winter to 35°C in summer.

Soils in the central Conca are predominantly limestone-rich, often with clay content, river terrace subsoils, and some mudstone at higher elevations. Historically the region supplied Macabeo and Parellada to Cava producers, and those white varieties remain dominant. The DO was officially established in 1985 and covers around 3,800 hectares. Trepat, a red variety grown almost exclusively in Conca de Barberà, is used for light reds and rosés. A small group of natural producers, including Jordi Llorens and Joan Ramon Escoda, have drawn international attention to the region over the past decade.
