Product description

Mae Son Vino Orange 2022 captures the alpine essence of Italy's Dolomites in a skin-contact white crafted from 100% Müller-Thurgau. Fourth-generation winemaker Matteo Furlani harvests grapes by hand in early September from vineyards perched between 300 and 720 meters elevation near Povo, above Trento. The calcareous soils mixed with clay and porphyry benefit from cooling northern winds and the famous Ora del Garda breeze. Mae Son Vino Orange 2022 undergoes 20-25 days of skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation in open-top steel vats, and stainless steel aging until April—unfined, unfiltered, with zero added sulfites.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Furlani

Mae Son represents a collaborative project between fourth-generation winemaker Matteo Furlani, export manager Claudio Coronato, and Jenny & François Selections. The name pays tribute to family—the importance of generational knowledge passed from parent to child and the careful craftsmanship that defines artisanal winemaking.

Matteo Furlani tends approximately six hectares of vineyards scattered across small parcels in the hills above Trento, some reaching 720 meters elevation on the slopes of Vigolana and Monte Bonifato. His family has farmed this land for nearly 280 years, though Matteo brought a renewed commitment to natural methods when he took over production. Chemistry has never played a role in the family's approach, but Matteo pushed further, adopting biodynamic principles and eliminating all synthetic inputs.

The vineyards feature both indigenous Trentino varieties—Pavana, Negrara, Rosara, Nosiola, Lagarino, Verdealbara—and adapted grapes like Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. All farming is done by hand, a necessity given the steep terrain. In the cellar, fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in open-top steel vats or cement tanks, without temperature control. One distinctive technique involves placing demijohns outside in winter snow, allowing natural cold settling to clarify the wines without fining or filtration.

Matteo also produces wines under the Cantina Furlani label, particularly acclaimed "sur lie" sparkling wines using his "Metodo Interrotto" (Interrupted Method)—a personal interpretation of traditional bottle fermentation. The Mae Son project channels this same uncompromising philosophy into still and lightly sparkling wines designed for broader accessibility while maintaining absolute purity.

Wine region

Trentino–Alto Adige, Italy

Trentino-Alto Adige occupies Italy's northernmost reaches, where the Dolomites rise dramatically above narrow alpine valleys and viticulture adapts to extreme elevation and continental climate. This bilingual region—Italian-speaking Trentino to the south, German-speaking Alto Adige (Südtirol) to the north—produces wines unlike anywhere else in Italy, shaped by steep slopes, limestone bedrock, and temperature swings that preserve acidity while allowing aromatic development.

The village of Povo sits just above Trento, where vineyards climb to over 700 meters on terrain that combines surface clay, schist, and broken granite locally known as "sasso dolomitico." Cool northern winds sweep through these elevated sites, while the Ora del Garda—a daily thermal breeze from Lake Garda—provides afternoon ventilation that keeps grapes healthy and slows ripening for optimal freshness.

Traditional training systems like the Pergola Trentina remain common here, allowing maximum airflow and sun exposure in challenging mountain terrain. Both indigenous varieties—Nosiola, Teroldego, Marzemino, Lagrein, Schiava—and adapted internationals like Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay thrive in these conditions. The region's natural wine movement has grown significantly, with producers embracing organic and biodynamic methods suited to the clean mountain environment.

Trentino-Alto Adige accounts for approximately 1.3 million hectoliters of wine annually, with over 70% being white. The combination of altitude, limestone soils, and dramatic diurnal temperature variation produces wines marked by precision, minerality, and vibrant acidity—characteristics increasingly sought by natural wine enthusiasts worldwide.
