Tasting notes

A Table! sits in a category of its own: a Loire Sauvignon Blanc treated like a serious orange wine, with one to two months of skin contact that pulls out tannin, amber color, and dried apricot and orange peel depth you simply do not get from direct-press Sauvignon. The clay-and-silex terroir of La Grand-Cléré adds a stony, saline edge that keeps the wine from becoming heavy despite its extraction.

A Table! is Francois Blanchard's skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc from La Grand-Cléré, a single parcel in Lémeré, roughly 40 km south of Tours in the Loire Valley. The vines are approximately 50 years old, planted in firm clay soils heavily littered with silex. The wine is bottled as Vin de France, as the extended maceration takes it outside the parameters of any local AOC.

The grapes are destemmed and macerated on their skins for the full duration of alcoholic fermentation — typically one to two months in a cold cellar. The juice is then pressed slowly and transferred to neutral oak barrels for elevage. No sulfites are added at any stage, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

In the glass, A Table! pours a deep hazy amber-orange. Expect dried apricot, orange peel, quince, and saline mineral notes on the nose and palate, with the textured tannin and high-toned acidity you'd expect from a month-plus of skin contact on Sauvignon Blanc. The wine shifts and opens considerably over an hour in the glass.

Blanchard has farmed La Grand-Cléré organically for over two decades, with a focus on permaculture and biodiversity. Fruit trees grow among the vines, horses work the land, and the large silex fragments make mechanical soil turning impossible. Production is tiny and the wine sells out quickly each vintage.

The tannin and acidity make this a natural match for aged goat cheese, chicken liver pate, or a charcuterie board. It holds its own alongside spiced dishes like Moroccan lamb or roasted squash with miso. Avoid delicate white fish — the skin-contact texture will overwhelm lighter flavors.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Francois Blanchard

Francois Blanchard is the fifth generation of his family to tend the vineyards of Château du Perron in Lémeré, approximately 40 km south of Tours. He spent years working as a professional jazz musician in Tours before returning to the family farm, with his first real vintage in 2003. He farms a total of four hectares of vines alongside 20 hectares of wild land used for vegetables, fruit trees, and horses.

Three of the four vine hectares are in La Grand-Cléré, a remote wooded parcel a short distance from the château. The vines average 50 years old and grow in firm clay studded with very large fragments of silex — fragments large enough that mechanical soil turning is impossible. Blanchard has farmed organically for over two decades, with the approach now focused on natural permaculture and maximum biodiversity: fruit trees planted among the vines, horses used in the vineyard, and no use of synthetic inputs.

In the cellar, Blanchard works without sulfur additions and bottles his wines unfined and unfiltered. A Table! is the skin-contact cuvée: grapes are destemmed, macerated on skins for the full duration of alcoholic fermentation (one to two months in a cold cellar), then pressed slowly to neutral oak for elevage. Decisions in the cellar are made vintage by vintage based on the character of the fruit. The wines are produced in very small quantities and are allocated globally.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

The Touraine is the central subregion of the Loire Valley, centered on and around the city of Tours. It sits at the meeting point of Atlantic and continental climates, with the oceanic influence dominant in the west and the air growing more continental moving east. The Loire and Cher rivers moderate temperatures across much of the zone. Soils vary widely across the appellation: tuffeau limestone, flinty clay, sand, and gravel all appear depending on proximity to the rivers and elevation on the valley slopes.

Touraine AOC covers 143 communes across the Indre-et-Loire and Loir-et-Cher departments, with Sauvignon Blanc the primary white grape and Gamay and Cabernet Franc dominant for reds. Within the Touraine umbrella sit several geographic denominations including Touraine-Amboise, Touraine-Chenonceaux, and Touraine-Oisly. Blanchard's village of Lémeré falls within this broader zone, but his skin-contact wines are labeled Vin de France, sitting outside any AOC designation. The wider Touraine has a long tradition of mineral-driven, high-acid Sauvignon Blanc wines often described as a more affordable alternative to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé.
