Tasting notes

At 10.8% ABV and undisgorged, this is a genuinely light-footed sparkling red — all crunchy cherry, watermelon, and strawberry with a bright, lively fizz that reads more like biting into cold fruit than drinking wine. The three-day whole-cluster maceration gives just enough grip to keep it from being one-dimensional.

Neon Eon's Zweigelt Pet Nat is a single-vineyard sparkling red wine sourced from Kaleden, BC, in the southern Okanagan Valley. The grapes are 100% Zweigelt, grown organically, and harvested on September 13, 2020. Soils at the site are clay, gravel, and loam, typical of this part of the valley floor and lower benches south of Penticton.

The winemaking follows méthode ancestrale: one-quarter of the grapes were crushed and destemmed, then poured over the remaining three-quarters as whole clusters. After a three-day partial ferment and soak, the wine was gently pressed and bottled while still fermenting, trapping CO2 in the bottle. It is undisgorged, with no added sulphur, no added yeasts, no enzymes or nutrients, and nothing removed — bottled unfined and unfiltered. Alcohol is 10.8%.

Zweigelt is a cross of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, developed in Austria in 1922. It brings bright cherry aromas and lively acidity from St. Laurent, and a peppery, structured edge from Blaufränkisch. In this low-alcohol, undisgorged format, those qualities read as fresh red fruit, watermelon, and a sparkling crunch of acidity rather than weight or tannin.

Tyler Thrussell makes Neon Eon in Summerland, BC. His father Rick founded Sage Hills Vineyard in Summerland; Tyler began producing under the Neon Eon label in 2018 as a separate creative project with no additions and no removals across the entire range.

Serve cold alongside charcuterie, fresh goat cheese, or anything off the grill where a light, chillable red would normally go. The low alcohol and bright acidity make it a natural match for spicy dishes — Korean fried chicken, Vietnamese summer rolls, or a simple bowl of cherries. Works well as an aperitif on its own.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Neon Eon

Neon Eon is the natural wine label of Tyler Thrussell, based in Summerland, BC. Tyler's father, Rick Thrussell, founded Sage Hills Vineyard in Summerland; his brother Keenan took over Sage Hills in 2015. Tyler launched Neon Eon in 2018 as a separate project focused on low-intervention winemaking with Okanagan-grown fruit.

All Neon Eon wines use organic or biodynamic grapes. The wines are made with no added yeasts, sulphur, enzymes, or nutrients, and nothing is removed — the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The approach is consistent across the range: grapes only, wild fermentation, and full transparency about what goes in and what does not.

For the Zweigelt Pet Nat, Tyler sourced fruit from a single vineyard in Kaleden, BC. One-quarter of the harvest was crushed and destemmed and poured over the remaining three-quarters as whole clusters. After a three-day partial ferment and soak, the juice was gently pressed and bottled while still fermenting, capturing CO2 in the bottle by méthode ancestrale. The wine is undisgorged — sediment remains in the bottle — and carries zero added sulphites.

Wine region

Okanagan Valley, Canada

The Okanagan Valley runs approximately 175 kilometres north to south through the southern interior of British Columbia, with Okanagan Lake dominating the central section. Vineyards sit on lake-moderated benches, terraces, and slopes between 300 and 600 metres elevation. The Cascade and Coast Mountains create a rain shadow effect, leaving the region with low annual precipitation — under 250mm in the south near Osoyoos and around 400mm further north. Most vineyards require irrigation. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters; daytime temperatures can reach 40°C while nights drop sharply, preserving natural acidity in the grapes.

Kaleden sits just south of Penticton in the central-south Okanagan, near Skaha Lake. Soils in this stretch of the valley are composed of glacial till, clay, gravel, and loam — well-draining and nutrient-poor, which encourages deep rooting. The Okanagan Valley holds VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) status as British Columbia's primary wine geographical indication, with sub-GIs including the Naramata Bench, Skaha Bench, and Summerland designations. The region accounts for approximately 86% of BC's total planted vineyard area. Cooler central-valley sites like Kaleden and Penticton are well-suited to aromatic whites and lower-alcohol, higher-acid reds.
