Tasting notes

This wine exists because Jurançon Noir is banned from the Cahors AOC, and Jouves refuses to drop it — the name says everything. From 50-year-old vines on limestone at 350 meters, it delivers bright raspberry, redcurrant, and violet with a gravelly, herbal edge that no standard Cahors can match.

You #%$& My Wine?! is Fabien Jouves' answer to the Cahors AOC rules that ban Jurançon Noir from the appellation. Because the grape is excluded, this wine is classified as Vin de France rather than Cahors AOC — and Jouves named it accordingly. The wine comes from a single 0.5-hectare plot in Trespoux-Rassiels, on calcareous soils at 350 meters elevation, farmed biodynamically with vines averaging 50 years old.

Grapes are harvested by hand and whole-cluster vatted in cement tanks and old oak barrels, macerating on skins for 7 days. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. The wine ages for approximately 6 months in neutral oak and concrete before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal added SO₂ (around 15 mg/L).

Jurançon Noir, a natural cross of Folle Blanche and Malbec, produces a lighter, fresher style than Cahors Malbec typically delivers. Expect a medium-bodied red with bright red fruit, an herbal streak, and lively acidity — more aligned with a cru Beaujolais in weight than with the structured, tannic profile Cahors is historically known for. Production is around 3,000 bottles per vintage.

The wine's bright acidity and modest tannin make it a natural with charcuterie boards, roasted chicken, or a plate of aged sheep's milk cheese. It also holds up well against dishes with some fat or umami — think duck confit, mushroom-heavy pastas, or a casual summer barbecue. Serve slightly chilled at around 58-60°F.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Mas del Perié

Fabien Jouves comes from a farming family with five generations of roots in the Causses du Quercy. He studied oenology and trained in Bordeaux before returning to take over the family estate in Trespoux-Rassiels in 2006, creating Mas del Périé on the highest slopes of the Cahors appellation. The estate sits at the junction of the Quercy hills and the limestone plateaus of Cahors, where shallow, poor calcareous soils suit the vine. The domaine now covers around 21 to 23 hectares planted primarily to Malbec and Chenin Blanc, along with old native varieties including Jurançon Noir, Valdiguié, Noual, and Gibert.

Jouves converted the estate to biodynamic viticulture from the beginning, receiving Demeter and Biodyvin certification in 2011 and organic certification from Ecocert. Vineyard work includes biodynamic preparations, manual harvesting in small crates with berry selection, and plot-by-plot vinification to capture the individual character of each parcel. He has also reintroduced hedgerows, fruit trees, and livestock into the estate's ecosystem as part of a broader regenerative approach.

In the cellar, Jouves works with full native yeast fermentations and no oenological additives. Wines are aged in a mix of concrete tanks, old oak barrels, large foudres, and amphorae depending on the cuvée. You #%$& My Wine?! specifically undergoes a 7-day whole-cluster maceration, fermentation in neutral oak and cement, then 6 months of aging before bottling without fining or filtration at a very low SO₂ addition of approximately 15 mg/L.

Wine region

Cahors, France

Cahors sits in the valley of the River Lot, roughly 110 miles southeast of Bordeaux in southwestern France. The Lot carves a serpentine route through the Lot department before flowing into the Garonne, and its dramatic meanders open hillside vineyard sites to sun and airflow. Terroir divides into two distinct types: the Causse, a high limestone plateau reaching up to 400 meters above sea level with shallow, rocky soils, and the lower river terraces with alluvial gravel and chalky stone. Summers are hot with Atlantic and Mediterranean influence both present; cool nights at altitude preserve acidity.

Cahors received its AOC designation in 1971, with Malbec — locally called Côt or Auxerrois — required to make up at least 70% of any wine carrying the appellation name. Merlot and Tannat are permitted in small supporting roles. Because of this minimum, grapes like Jurançon Noir and Valdiguié are excluded from AOC Cahors wines entirely, forcing producers who use them to declassify to Vin de France. The region has a winemaking history dating to Roman times and was historically known for producing some of medieval Europe's most prized red wines.
