The Wine: Well Rested Pinot Noir 2020
Catch & Release Well Rested Pinot Noir is a red natural wine made from 100% biodynamic Pinot Noir grapes grown at Filigreen Farm, Anderson Valley, California. 15 day, 50% whole cluster, native yeast fermentation. No pumpovers, and punchdowns done by hand to mitigate extraction. Pressed to neutral oak barrels and aged for 18 months. No racking, fining or filtering.
Winemakers' notes: Rose hip aromatics with a fresh, yet concentrated backbone of red summer fruits. There is a nuanced power about the wine - It is ripe but grounded in freshness. Forward and confident without being large and brash. The details are endless but the wine is approachable. Drink now through the end of the decade. It’s only getting better.
The Producer: Catch & Release
We met at work - an ad network in the Flatiron district of Manhattan. We had similar upbringings although we were pretty detached from them when we met. Waldorf education and anthroposophic philosophies were not inline with our 24 year old selves. Now, older and wiser, we've gotten back to those roots. Our Mom's are so proud.
I’m Beno, I make the wine. This is Monica, she is all things aesthetic, and filters out all my bad ideas. The approach to Catch & Release is simple. Source the best fruit possible and let it do the heavy lifting. We do not course correct in the cellar so fruit quality is paramount. The wines are delicate - Less extraction, gentle pressing and a general philosophy that less is more. It’s all in the details. (source: Catch & Release)
