Product Description

The Wine: Vinho Tinto 2018

This powerful and yet refreshing red wine from Bairrada, northwestern Portugal, is a blend of Baga (50%), Castelao (25%), Touriga Nacional (15%), Alfrocheiro (10%). The vineyards are located on the hillsides and benefit from the cool Ocean breeze.

This Vinho Tinto, red wine in Portuguese, is fleshy and supple, with a nice touch of minerality and balanced acidity. Ripe red fruit on the nose and long finish, for an age-worthy medium-bodied red wine.

The Producer: Quinta da Serradinha

António Marques-da-Cruz runs Quinta da Serradinha, a winery located in Leira north of Lisboa, the capital of Portugal, in the Bairrada wine region. The estate can count on some of the oldest vineyards in the area, planted in the early 50s by António’s grandfather.

The main grape varietals grown at Quinta da Serradinha are Alfrocheiro, Castelão, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Nacional, and local hero Baga, which António farms organically as well as following some principles of biodynamic. António’s approach in the cellar is hands-off, and his wines clearly reflect this characteristic.

The Region: Bairrada

Bairrada is a region located in northwest Portugal within the wider region called Beira Litoral, between the Atlantic Ocean (west) and the mountains of Dão region (east), stretching from the coast to the border with Spain.

The most widely planted grape varietal in this region is Baga (75% of all vineyards), traditionally vinified into dark red powerful wines with firm tannins. Other red varietals grown in Bairrada are Portugal native like Castelão, Rufete, Touriga Nacional but also international, such as Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Among the several white grape varietals grown in the region, we have Arinto, Bical, Cercial, Sercialinho, Fernão Pires, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Terroir of Bairrada

Bairrada’s terroir and its wines are deeply influenced by two elements: the Atlantic Ocean, and the clay soils rich in limestone. The Ocean mitigates the climate, which could be defined as maritime with substantial rainfall. The further we move from the coast towards the Dão region, the higher the quality of the grapes.

Shipping & Returns

Stress Free Shipping

At Primal Wine we like to be transparent about everything we do. When it comes to buying products online, shipping is the most important aspect, and that’s why we take great care in shipping and handling your order using only 100% recycled packaging material. We don't ship to: LA, KS, MS, AL, WI, KY, NH, UT, SD, MI, AR.

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, which will be determined based on quantity and shipping address. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Important Compliance Requirements

UPS and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older.

Important COVID Update

UPS and FedEx declared that in order to protect their workers and customers, they no longer require a signature on delivery. This does not mean they will drop a wine box at your door. UPS delivery workers will make sure the person receiving the wine is 21 years or older, and will ask for his/her name - only then do they deliver the package.

Shipping Rates and Options

An important premise: wine bottles are heavy – about 3 pounds each – and shipping is expensive! Primal Wine is not backed by venture capital money – we proudly are a mom and pop independent online store – and we must charge shipping on all orders under a certain amount, otherwise we wouldn’t be in business. However, we try our best to offer you very competitive shipping rates and frequent free shipping discount. Please subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop!

Return Policy

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact us via e-mail at between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Sunday, we would like to understand and try to solve your concerns. Returning wine is not allowed by law, and so we might make arrangements for a refund if appropriate
