Tasting notes

The combination of Riesling's high natural acidity and Gewurztraminer's lychee and rose-petal aromatics gives this wine an unusual intensity without any winemaking additions to prop it up. At under 10 mg/L total SO2, it is one of the most truly additive-free white wines you will find from Canada, and it shows in how vividly and directly the fruit comes through.

Tropicalia is a white wine from Tyler Thrussell of Neon Eon, based in Summerland, British Columbia. The blend is 65% Riesling and 35% Gewurztraminer, sourced from organic or biodynamic-farmed vineyards in the Okanagan Valley. Both varieties are aromatic by nature, and together they produce an intensely perfumed, expressive white with a distinctive funky edge.

Winemaking follows a strict no-input approach: native yeast fermentation only, with no added sulfites (total SO2 under 10 mg/L), no enzymes, no added nutrients, and no fining or filtration. What is in the bottle is exactly what came from the vineyard and the cellar, alive and unadulterated.

Riesling brings zesty acidity and citrus drive; Gewurztraminer contributes lychee, rose petal, and spice. In a natural wine context with zero additions, both varieties read clearly and vividly, without the weight that over-manipulation or residual sugar can add.

Neon Eon was founded in 2018 as a creative project separate from Thrussell's family winery, Sage Hills, also in Summerland. All Neon Eon wines use organic or biodynamic fruit and are made without any conventional winemaking inputs.

The aromatic intensity of Gewurztraminer and the bright acidity of Riesling make this a natural match for spiced dishes: Thai green curry, Moroccan chicken tagine, or Vietnamese pho. It also works well with fresh chevre, smoked salmon, or a simple plate of ripe stone fruit and aged cheddar.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Neon Eon

Neon Eon was founded in 2018 by Tyler Thrussell in Summerland, British Columbia. Thrussell grew up working in his family's vineyard, which is also home to Sage Hills Winery in Summerland, where he developed his understanding of organic viticulture. He started Neon Eon as a separate creative project to experiment with natural winemaking, independent of the family operation.

All Neon Eon wines are made from organic or biodynamic grapes sourced in the Okanagan Valley. The farm-to-bottle philosophy is straightforward: no added yeasts, no sulfur additions, no enzymes, no nutrients, no fining agents, and no filtration. Grapes are fermented with native yeast. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and contain less than 10 mg/L total SO2.

Thrussell's initial exposure to natural wine came during a trip to Vienna, where he encountered a Gewurztraminer made in an oxidative, unmanipulated style that changed his perspective on what wine could be. That experience directly informed the approach he applies to all Neon Eon wines, including Tropicalia.

Wine region

Okanagan Valley, Canada

The Okanagan Valley is British Columbia's largest wine region, stretching over 250 kilometres north to south in a narrow, lake-filled corridor between the Columbia and Cascade mountain ranges. This position shelters the valley from Pacific maritime influence and Arctic winds, producing a warm continental climate with up to 2,000 hours of annual sunshine, low annual rainfall (as little as 250mm near Osoyoos), and significant diurnal temperature shifts that preserve natural acidity in the grapes. Okanagan Lake runs through much of the valley and moderates temperatures in both summer and fall, extending the growing season.

The valley's soils are primarily glacial in origin: sand, gravel, clay, silt, and volcanic rock deposited during the last ice age, generally well-draining and low in fertility. This encourages deep vine rooting and concentrated fruit. Summerland, where Neon Eon is based, sits in the Summerland-Peachland sub-region on the west side of Okanagan Lake. The Okanagan Valley is one of six Designated Viticultural Areas (GIs) in British Columbia and is home to over 85% of the province's total vineyard area. Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Merlot are among the most widely planted varieties.
