Tasting notes

This is a genuinely light, crunchy red at 12% ABV with a tartness — wild strawberry, sour cherry, dried cranberry — that makes it one of the most food-versatile bottles in the natural wine world. Sumoll brings a savory, almost briny edge that keeps it interesting from first glass to last.

TN stands for Tinto Natural, the house red from Partida Creus in Bonastre, Baix Penedès. The 2018 is a blend of Tempranillo (locally called Ull de Llebre), Sumoll, and Bobal — three grapes grown on the clay-limestone soils of the Massís de Bonastre, near Tarragona. The blend shifts every vintage depending on what the year delivers, making each edition its own wine rather than a consistent formula.

Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, with four days of maceration. The wine then ages for ten months in large old wooden barrels before being bottled without fining, filtration, or any added sulfur dioxide. Partida Creus stopped all sulfur additions entirely in 2013.

The result is a low-alcohol, high-acid red built for drinking rather than cellaring. Expect wild strawberry, sour cherry, dried cranberry, and a light earthy undertow — with soft tannins and a bright, almost saline finish that reflects the lean, mineral character of the Penedès terroir. Chill it down slightly before serving.

Works well with charcuterie, jamón ibérico, grilled pork, or any dish with good acidity or fat to match its tartness. Strong cheeses and Spanish-style roasted meats are reliable partners. Chill to around 55°F and treat it like a Beaujolais.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Partida Creus

Partida Creus was established around 2000 by Antonella Gerosa and Massimo Marchiori, two architects originally from Piedmont, Italy, who relocated first to Barcelona and then to the remote village of Bonastre in the Baix Penedès. The winery name references the stone crosses that Catalans historically used to mark the boundary lines between vineyard parcels. Their property, El Maiol, is surrounded by protected forest and Mediterranean scrubland.

When they arrived in Bonastre, Massimo and Antonella found abandoned vineyards planted with indigenous varieties that local growers considered obsolete and commercially worthless — Sumoll, Garrut, Trepat, Cartoixa Vermell, and Vinyater, among others. Rather than replant with international varieties, they began acquiring and farming these old, low-yielding vines organically. Vineyards are worked without synthetic treatments, and the harvests are done entirely by hand. The winery ceased all sulfur additions in 2013.

In the cellar, all wines ferment with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and receive no fining, no filtration, and zero added sulfur at any stage. The TN is fermented with four days of maceration before aging ten months in large, neutral old wooden barrels, followed by a short period back in steel before bottling. The grape blend for TN shifts from vintage to vintage based on what the year produces. Today, Partida Creus produces over 100,000 bottles annually across a wide range of single-varietal and blended cuvées.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

Penedès is a Denominació d'Origen Protegida located in Catalonia, in the coastal hills between Barcelona and Tarragona. The region is divided into three sub-zones: Baix Penedès along the warmer, lower-lying coast; Penedès Central in the broad inland plain; and Alt Penedès, with vineyards reaching up to 700 meters above sea level. Partida Creus sits in the Baix Penedès, in the Massís de Bonastre near Tarragona, where the warmer mesoclimate suits red varieties. As of the 2025 harvest, Penedès became the first wine appellation in the world with 100% certified organic production.

Soils across Penedès are primarily clay and limestone of mostly Miocene sediment origin, poor in organic matter and well-drained — conditions that naturally limit vine yields and concentrate flavor. The Mediterranean climate delivers hot, dry summers and mild winters, with moderate rainfall in spring and autumn. Sea breezes from the coast moderate temperatures in the lower zones, while higher elevations in Alt Penedès experience greater diurnal temperature swings. Penedès is historically Spain's center of Cava production, but it is also home to indigenous red varieties like Sumoll, Garrut, Trepat, and Cartoixa Vermell that producers like Partida Creus have worked to preserve.
