Stagiaire Wine Sprinkles on Top in the words of winemaker Brent Mayeaux: "First wine from my Pinot Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Planted by Gerhard 20 years ago as a retirement project. I’ve taken over as he isn’t able to keep up with things anymore. He still likes to get out and prune and take care of a few rows close to his house though. There is no tractor. Everything is done by hand. When you spend all of your time in a vineyard, you daydream about the wines you’ll make from it. The plans change over time as you start to see how it grows, understand its contours, the sections that drain differently, the spots where the trees compete for sunshine and water...I planned to make red wine. Here is a pink wine. All of the one and a half rows of Chardonnay and some Pinot go whole-cluster into a plastic fermenter and were topped with direct pressed Pinot. It was left to infuse for 8 days. This was the longest maceration of 2020. You don’t really feel the skin contact. It comes across like a Provence rose with a savory edge from the chard skins and slight carbonic pop".

Brent's dedication, humble attitude, and talent are reflected in his wines, very precise, characterized by a perfectly balanced acidity that brings them to life.
