The Wine: Arcana Savagnin 2018
Iruai Arcana Savagnin is a white natural wine made from 100% Savagnin grapes grown in Northern California. The wine - the first vintage for Iruai Wine - is made naturally with minimal intervention, unfiltered, unfined, low-sulfites. Winemaker Chad Hinds: "Like a neon tractor beam jetting out of the Trinity Alps, our inaugural vintage of the 'Arcana' Savagnin has both exceeded my expectations and my comprehension. Rocky and electric, with a tropical punch and a heady herbal tea perfume, if you feel like you've experienced a case of missing time, that means it's working. The owls are not what they seem." First vintage, you are witnessing California winemaking history being made!
The Producer: Iruai • Methode Sauvage
Methode Sauvage was started in 2013 by Chad Hinds. We began, striving to find a voice for California Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc from all over the state. In the Spring of 2018, we will begin planting a vineyard in the California Alps of Siskiyou County, using the permaculture methods laid out by Masanobu Fukuoka. In the spirit of this new project, we have begun experimenting with wine styles and varietals from the Alps of Europe.
We seek to make wine with a sense of place by employing no additives and removing no character. We explore a diverse array of exceptional vineyard sites, with the goal of channeling terroir and showcasing California's diversity.
The Region: Calaveras County, California
