Tasting notes

This is Sauvignon Blanc with genuine texture: a week on skins gives it a saline, slightly grippy quality that conventional versions from the region never achieve. Multiple pickings assembled into one wine add aromatic layering — citrus zest and passionfruit on top, a flinty mineral thread underneath.

  • Style: Dry, light-bodied skin-contact white; saline and citrus-driven; 12% ABV
  • Grapes & Terroir: 100% Sauvignon Blanc; organic, dry-farmed, own-rooted vines; sandy soils with ironstone gravel, Cowaramup, Margaret River
  • Winemaking: Multiple pickings assembled; wild yeast fermentation; ~1 week skin maceration; basket pressed; no pumping, no oak, no fining, no filtration, no sulfur
  • Serving: Serve at 50-55F; no decanting needed; treat like a light orange wine
  • Pairing: Oysters, grilled prawns, white fish ceviche, goat cheese, herb salads
  • Similar To: For fans of skin-contact whites and Loire Sauvignon Blanc who want something with coastal salinity and real texture

Sam Vinciullo's Sauvignon Blanc comes from his leased farm near the town of Cowaramup, about 15 minutes north of the Margaret River township in Western Australia. The vines are own-rooted and dry-farmed on sandy soils with patches of sandy loam, grown without herbicides or systemic chemicals. Sam conducts multiple separate pickings from the vineyard, which he then assembles into a single wine.

After hand-harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and fermented on skins for approximately one week in sealed open-top plastic vessels. All movement is done by gravity or bucket — no pumps are used. Ferments are hand-plunged. After basket pressing, the wine is bottled from lees with no fining, no filtration, no oak, and no sulfur additions at any stage.

The result is a skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc that sits at the lighter, fresher end of the orange wine spectrum. Expect a saline edge, citrus zest, and a hint of tropical fruit carried by vibrant acidity. It is a wine with texture but not weight — more grip than a conventional white, more freshness than most skin-contact wines.

Works well with raw or lightly cooked shellfish — oysters, clams, or grilled prawns — where the wine's salinity echoes the sea. Goat cheese and herb-forward dishes are natural partners given the wine's acidity and slight herbal edge. Also strong alongside white fish ceviche or a simple green salad with a citrus vinaigrette.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Sam Vinciullo

Sam Vinciullo completed his winemaking studies in Adelaide in 2005 and spent several years working in cellars across Australia and Europe. In 2010 he began working on Mount Etna in Sicily alongside natural winemaker Frank Cornelissen, an experience that fundamentally shaped his understanding of farming and minimal-intervention winemaking. In 2013 he made his first wines under the SRC label from a garage in Sicily, but the venture collapsed when his financial partner withdrew. He returned to Western Australia in 2015 and launched the Sam Vinciullo label with his first Margaret River vintage that year.

For his first three vintages (2015 to 2017) Sam sourced grapes from growers farming the way he intended — dry-farmed, without herbicides or systemic chemicals. In early 2017 he took on the lease of a 6.5-hectare farm in Cowaramup. The property had been worked conventionally and was 75% irrigated; he immediately stopped all herbicide use and removed the irrigation system. The vines are own-rooted, a natural advantage in a region where phylloxera has not taken hold. He farms entirely by himself, mixing and applying organic treatments from a backpack sprayer.

All grapes are hand-harvested across multiple separate pickings and then assembled. Whites are destemmed, placed in sealed open-top vessels, and fermented on skins for approximately one week using only ambient wild yeasts. No temperature control is applied during fermentation. All must movement is by gravity or bucket — pumps are not used on the property. After basket pressing, wines rest on their lees and are bottled with no fining, no filtration, no oak contact, and no sulfur additions at any point in the process.

Wine region

Margaret River, Australia

Margaret River sits in the southwestern corner of Western Australia, approximately 270 kilometres south of Perth. It is a long, narrow region flanked by the Indian Ocean to the north and west and the Southern Ocean to the south. This triple ocean exposure gives the region the most strongly maritime-influenced climate of any major Australian wine area, with a mean annual temperature range of just 7.6°C. Warm, dry summers are moderated by afternoon sea breezes; almost all of the region's annual 1,160mm of rainfall arrives in winter, leaving the growing season dry and sunny.

The soils are among the geologically oldest on earth, derived primarily from decomposed granite and gneiss that are between 1,130 and 1,600 million years old. These ancient soils have weathered into loamy sands and gravelly surfaces underlain by clay, with ironstone gravel (known locally as Forest Grove soils) appearing on upper slopes. The Cowaramup subarea, where Sam Vinciullo farms, has predominantly sandy soils with patches of sandy loam and ironstone at higher elevations. Margaret River has no officially gazetted sub-appellations; all wines fall under the single Margaret River Geographical Indication. The region produces notable Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon, with the first commercial vines planted in 1967.
