Tasting notes

Marsanne on skins is a rare thing in California, and Diaz leans into the grape's natural weight without letting it go flabby — honeysuckle, pear, and melon meet a grippy, amber-hued texture. No added sulfites, no fining, no filtering: what you get is exactly what the vintage and the grape gave.

Oranjeena is Purity Wine's skin-contact Marsanne, made in California from organically farmed grapes. Noel Diaz ferments with native yeasts, macerates the juice on skins to extract color and tannin, then bottles the wine unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfites (under 10 mg/L total). The result is a true orange wine in both method and appearance.

Marsanne is a white Rhone variety that naturally produces wines with body, low-to-moderate acidity, and aromas of honeysuckle, pear, stone fruit, and melon. Extended skin contact pulls out texture and a nutty, oxidative depth that pushes the wine into amber territory. This 2020 vintage reflects the grape's tendency toward weight and richness, balanced here by Diaz's preference for restraint and minimal intervention.

Purity Wine sources fruit from organically farmed vineyards across Northern California, including sites in the Sierra Foothills at around 2,000 feet elevation where clay and granite soils contribute mineral character. Diaz launched Purity around 2014 after nearly two decades working in restaurants, eventually becoming a wine buyer before shifting to production.

The weight and tannic grip of skin-contact Marsanne work well with richer dishes: roast chicken with herbs, grilled shrimp, or a buttery squash risotto. The wine's textural depth also holds up to soft-washed rind cheeses. Try it slightly cool, around 55F, rather than fully chilled.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Purity Wine

Purity Wine is the project of Noel Diaz, who spent nearly 20 years working in restaurants before moving into winemaking, eventually serving as a wine buyer before making the shift to production. He launched Purity around 2014, and by 2021 had completed his eighth vintage. Diaz has shown his wines at natural wine fairs including RAW WINE, Brumaire, and Third Coast Soif.

From the outset, Purity has worked exclusively with organically farmed fruit, sourcing from vineyards across Northern California including the Sierra Foothills at around 2,000 feet elevation, Mendocino, Sonoma, Contra Costa County, and the San Joaquin Valley. Soils at the Foothill sites include clay and granite. Diaz has worked with a wide range of varieties including Marsanne, Viognier, Roussanne, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Chardonnay, and Verdelho.

Across all Purity wines, winemaking follows a consistent low-intervention approach: native yeast fermentation, skin maceration for orange wines, and bottling unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfites or less than 10 mg/L total. Diaz publishes the full winemaking story for each wine on the back label.

Wine region

California, USA

California's winemaking geography spans coastal valleys cooled by Pacific fog and wind, inland valleys with warmer continental climates, and elevated foothill sites that trade heat for diurnal temperature swings. The Sierra Foothills, running along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range, includes sub-appellations such as El Dorado and Nevada County, where vineyards sit at elevations from 1,500 to over 3,000 feet on clay and granite soils. These higher sites retain acidity and produce wines with more structure than comparable low-elevation fruit.

California carries no single dominant appellation identity for white Rhone varieties like Marsanne. Instead, producers source from scattered vineyards across the state, often blending geographies and counties under a broad California appellation. The Rhone Rangers movement, active since the 1980s, helped establish Marsanne, Viognier, and Roussanne as legitimate California varieties alongside the dominant Cabernet and Chardonnay plantings. As of 2019, approximately 125 acres of Marsanne were planted statewide, concentrated in Central Coast and Foothill sites.
