Tasting notes

The 90/10 press-to-skin-contact split gives L'Incontro a texture you don't usually find in a Trebbiano this light — there's a waxy, citrus-peel quality on the mid-palate that keeps it interesting. At one liter and no added sulfites, it's the kind of bottle that disappears at the table before anyone notices the format.

L'Incontro Bianco is made from 100% organically farmed Trebbiano grown in Sammichele di Bari, on the Altopiano delle Murge (Murgia plateau) at around 280 meters above sea level. The soils are karst in character, with red clay over Bari limestone — a geological makeup that lends the wine its mineral backbone and fresh acidity. Vineyards are hand-worked; only sulfur and copper are used as treatments.

In the cellar, 90% of the grapes are direct-pressed and 10% are macerated on the skins, giving the wine a slight textural grip without pushing it into orange wine territory. Fermentation is fully spontaneous with native yeasts. No sulfites are added at any stage. The wine is bottled in one-liter format.

The result is a dry, light-bodied white with citrus peel, dried flowers, and a faint herbal note on the nose. The palate is bright and textured, with clean acidity and a mineral finish that reflects the limestone-heavy soils of the Murgia. Unfined and unfiltered.

Works well with raw or lightly dressed seafood — crudo, oysters, or grilled branzino with olive oil and lemon. The citrus and mineral notes hold up against fried foods like calamari or zucchini fritti. Also good alongside fresh cheeses such as burrata or fior di latte, both local staples of the Murgia region.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

La Cattiva

Masseria La Cattiva is located in Sammichele di Bari, Puglia. The property — a traditional white stone farmhouse, or masseria — has long been in the family of Marianna Pastore Bovio, whose family farmed the vineyards organically for decades and sold the grapes to larger wineries rather than making wine on the estate. In 2019, Marianna and her husband, along with five friends who had worked as craft brewers, converted the old cattle stable into a fermentation cellar and began producing natural wine under the La Cattiva name.

The estate farms organically and is certified by Accredia and Suolosalute. Vineyard work is done entirely by hand. The only treatments applied are sulfur and copper. Primitivo and Trebbiano lead the plantings, supported by other native Apulian varieties. The estate produces around ten thousand bottles per year across its range.

Fermentation across all wines is 100% spontaneous with native yeasts — no selected strains, no added sulfites. Most wines ferment and age in stainless steel; select bottlings are raised in amphora or barrel. L'Incontro Bianco uses a split approach: 90% direct press and 10% skin maceration, combined before fermentation. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered in one-liter format.

Wine region

Puglia, Italy

Puglia stretches from the Gargano Peninsula in the north to the tip of the Salento Peninsula in the south, forming the heel of the Italian boot. The region is one of Italy's largest wine producers by volume. Sammichele di Bari, where Masseria La Cattiva is located, sits on the Altopiano delle Murge — a karst plateau inland from the Adriatic, at around 280 meters above sea level. The soils here are red clay over Bari limestone, formed during the Cretaceous period, with natural drainage through karst fissures and sinkholes.

Puglia's wine production is dominated by red varieties — Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Nero di Troia are the most widely planted. White wine production is less prominent, though Trebbiano is among the established plantings in the Terra di Bari area. The Murgia plateau falls within the Murgia IGT designation, covering much of Bari province. The area also overlaps with the Gioia del Colle DOC to the south, known primarily for Primitivo. The plateau's elevation, karst soils, and dry continental climate give white wines grown here a freshness and mineral edge unusual for southern Italy.
