Maison Kuentz-Bas was first established by the Kuentz family in 1795, and the domaine as we know it today was forged through a marriage that joined the Kuentz and Bas families in 1895. Founded in 1795, Kuentz-Bas Winery has been a cornerstone of Alsace's wine culture, with a cellar built in 1894 that continues to produce wines served in restaurants worldwide. This traditional-method Crémant d'Alsace is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Auxerrois grown on the clay-limestone and sandstone soils that define the estate. Grapes are fermented naturally in foudre over 2 to 3 weeks with daily pumpovers, then aged for 8 months.

An exceptionally versatile sparkler that shines as an aperitif and carries through a full meal. Pair with shellfish, poultry, appetizers and snacks, lean fish, or as an aperitif. Also a natural match for Alsatian charcuterie, fresh goat cheese, and creamy soft cheeses.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Kuentz-Bas

Kuentz-Bas was founded in 1795 by two families, Kuentz and Bas. Nestled in the town of Husseren-les-Châteaux, it sits at one of the highest points in Alsace, and the vineyards stretch out from the village over an area of ten hectares. More than two hundred years of tradition and vineyard pedigree have made these wines perennial favorites, with the grand crus of Eichberg and Pfersigberg earning the highest esteem. In 2004 the estate was sold to renowned vigneron Jean-Baptiste Adam.

Kuentz-Bas has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2008. The winemaking process prioritizes minimal intervention, with no added yeasts or fining agents, and limited use of sulfur. The focus is on the grapes, ensuring that each wine authentically reflects its terroir. The estate benefits from south-southeast facing vineyards, primarily composed of clay-limestone and sandstone soils, terroirs that impart deep textures and intense aromatic expressions to the wines.

The grapes are delicately pressed whole, for 8 to 16 hours in order to extract the finest aromas from each berry. The fermentation takes 6 to 8 months, in the most natural way possible, to emphasize the work already done in the vineyard. The fermentation with indigenous yeasts begins and stops on its own. For the Crémant Tradition, grapes are fermented naturally in foudre over 2 to 3 weeks with daily pumpovers and aged for 8 months.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Small but mighty, this picturesque region in northeastern France is renowned for its white wines produced by passionate families whose winemaking roots span generations and even centuries. Nestled between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River, Alsace benefits from a sunny, dry climate and a long growing season. The cool climate is surprisingly dry and sunny thanks to the rain shadow effect from the Vosges Mountains, so grapes ripen fully while retaining mouthwatering acidity.

From traditional-method sparkling wines to easy-drinking AOC Alsace, to complex Grand Cru bottlings from 51 distinct sites, and rich, late harvest wines, Alsace produces a wine for every occasion. Most Alsace wines are single-varietal bottlings and are labeled with the grape name. Crémant d'Alsace is the region's traditional-method sparkling appellation, typically built around Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Auxerrois, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. The region is also one of the greenest wine-producing areas in France, with 36% of its vineyard area certified organic.
