Tasting notes

This blend pulls off something unusual for BC: Zweigelt's cranberry brightness cuts through Merlot's plush mid-palate, and the Syrah adds a savory, peppery lift that keeps the whole thing from going soft. Bottled at zero total sulfites with no filtration, it drinks with a lively, slightly rustic texture that rewards attention.

Horizon is a red blend from Tyler Thrussell's Neon Eon project in Summerland, British Columbia. The 2019 is built from Merlot, Zweigelt, and Syrah sourced from the Okanagan Valley, where vineyards sit on clay, gravel, and loam soils shaped by glacial activity. Summerland sits on the western shore of Okanagan Lake, which moderates the continental climate and extends the growing season into autumn.

Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeast. The wine is aged in old oak, then bottled unfined and unfiltered with zero added sulfites and zero total sulfites. No yeasts, enzymes, nutrients, or other inputs are used at any stage.

Zweigelt, an Austrian crossing of Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent, adds bright red fruit and firm acidity to the Merlot's softer, rounder frame. Syrah pulls the blend toward darker fruit and a hint of pepper. The result is a medium-bodied red with enough structure to hold up to food and enough freshness to drink without much ceremony.

Serve with roasted duck, pork shoulder, or lamb burgers. The Zweigelt's acidity also works well against charcuterie and aged cheddar. Lightly chilled around 58-60F, it's easy alongside a simple roast chicken.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Returns Policy

Producer profile

Neon Eon

Neon Eon was founded in 2018 by Tyler Thrussell in Summerland, BC. Thrussell's family operates Sage Hills winery, also in Summerland, which gave him early exposure to viticulture. He started Neon Eon as a separate project focused on minimal-intervention winemaking, distinct from the family estate.

All Neon Eon wines use grapes grown under organic or biodynamic practices. No added yeasts, sulfur, enzymes, nutrients, or other inputs are used at any stage of production. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Thrussell has noted that proper storage matters for wines made this way, as they remain biologically active.

Fermentation across the Neon Eon range is spontaneous, driven by native yeast. The Horizon is aged in old oak before bottling. The zero-input approach extends to the cellar: nothing is added and nothing is removed, consistent with RAW WINE's verified listings for the brand.

Wine region

Okanagan Valley, Canada

The Okanagan Valley runs roughly 175 km north to south through British Columbia's interior and accounts for approximately 86% of BC's planted vineyard area. The valley has a continental climate moderated by Okanagan Lake, which runs through much of its length. Hot, dry summers with daytime temperatures regularly above 30C are offset by cool nights, which preserve acidity in the grapes. Summerland sits on the western shore of Okanagan Lake, where glaciated soils of sandy loam, glacial till, and silty clay support some of the highest-elevation vineyard sites in the valley.

The Okanagan Valley GI is the primary appellation for BC wine and includes eleven recognized sub-GIs. Summerland itself falls within three sub-GIs designated in 2022: Summerland Bench, Summerland Lakefront, and Summerland Valleys. Soil composition across the valley is primarily glacial till, sand, gravel, and volcanic rock. The range of elevations and exposures allows producers to grow a wide spectrum of grapes, from aromatic whites in the cooler north to Bordeaux varieties and Syrah in the warmer south. Merlot and Syrah are among the most widely planted reds valley-wide.
