Tasting notes

Co-fermenting Grenache with Alexandrian Muscat is a genuinely unusual move: the Muscat pushes the wine toward orange blossom and stone fruit aromatics that you don't expect from a Terra Alta red. It's a first vintage from a small project working with a single estate vineyard outside Pinell de Brai, and it shows a clear point of view.

Gràcies, Pepito 2019 is a red wine made from co-fermented Grenache (Garnacha Tinta) and Alexandrian Muscat, sourced from the Escollades vineyard just outside Pinell de Brai in Catalonia's Terra Alta DO. The grapes are farmed by Josep Ramon Alabart. This was the debut vintage for the project.

The co-fermentation of Grenache with aromatic Alexandrian Muscat is an unconventional choice that pulls this wine away from the typical Terra Alta red profile. Muscat of Alexandria adds floral lift and aromatic intensity to the Grenache base, which in Terra Alta tends toward ripe red fruit and garrigue character on calcareous, clay-limestone soils.

Terra Alta sits at the southernmost tip of Catalonia, bordered by Aragon to the west and the Ebro River to the north. The region's plateau vineyards are swept by the cerç (a dry northwesterly wind) and the garbí (a southeasterly sea breeze), both of which regulate vine health and extend the growing season. Soils range from clay-limestone to the distinctive panal — a fine sandy soil originating from ancient fossil dunes — which provides excellent drainage.

Josh Eubank and Lara Almazlinos make their wines in Pinell de Brai, a town that has become a focal point for natural winemakers in Terra Alta, in part due to the influence of pioneers like Laureano Serres Montagut of Mendall. Gràcies, Pepito 2019 is their first release.

The floral, fruit-forward profile works well with herb-roasted lamb, grilled merguez, or a board of aged manchego and cured meats. The Muscat component gives it enough aromatic lift to handle dishes with some spice, like a slow-cooked Catalan sofrito or lamb tagine with dried fruit.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

J.Eubank & L.P. Almazlinos

J.Eubank & L.P. Almazlinos is the joint project of Josh Eubank and Lara Almazlinos, who make wine in Pinell de Brai, a small town in Terra Alta that has attracted a cluster of natural-leaning producers. Gràcies, Pepito 2019 was their first vintage.

The grapes for this wine come from the Escollades vineyard, located just outside Pinell de Brai and farmed by Josep Ramon Alabart. Beyond the vineyard source and the co-fermentation of Grenache with Alexandrian Muscat, specific details on farming certification and winemaking methods have not been publicly confirmed.

Wine region

Terra Alta, Spain

Terra Alta is the southernmost DO in Catalonia, occupying a high inland plateau in the province of Tarragona. The region encompasses 12 municipalities including Pinell de Brai, Gandesa, Batea, and Horta de Sant Joan, bordered by Aragon to the west and the Ebro River to the north. Vineyards sit on plateaus and valley floors, with mountain peaks reaching up to 950 meters. The climate is continental Mediterranean: hot, dry summers are tempered by two dominant winds — the cerç, a dry northwesterly, and the garbí, a southeasterly sea breeze — which together reduce fungal pressure and extend ripening.

Terra Alta holds one of Catalonia's seven historical DOs, recognized since 1982. Soils are predominantly calcareous clay-limestone, with a notable local type called panal — a fine sandy soil derived from ancient fossil dunes — that delivers excellent drainage and some of the region's most mineral-driven wines. Garnacha dominates both red and white plantings: Garnacha Tinta (Grenache Noir) drives the region's reds, while Garnacha Blanca is Terra Alta's flagship white grape, with the DO holding roughly a third of the world's total plantings of that variety. Carignan and Syrah also play supporting roles in red blends, while Muscat of Alexandria is an authorized variety used sparingly.
