Tasting notes

This is carbonic Gamay done right: fresh cherry, wild strawberry, and dried violet on the nose with a mineral, earthy undercurrent that keeps it honest. The acidity is genuinely mouthwatering, the tannins are barely there, and the whole thing is effortlessly drinkable slightly chilled.

Gaspard Gamay is made from 100% Gamay grapes sourced from sustainably and organically farmed vineyards in the central Loire Valley, France. The vines grow in clay-limestone soils and range from 10 to 60 years old. Sulfites are kept below 30ppm, and the wine is filtered but not fined.

Fermentation is semi-carbonic with indigenous yeasts, a technique that preserves fresh fruit character and keeps tannins low. After fermentation, the wine ages for 8 months in stainless steel tanks, which maintains the wine's vivid red fruit profile and natural acidity without adding oak influence.

In the glass, the wine shows ruby color with aromas of fresh cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and a faint earthy mineral undercurrent. The palate is light to medium-bodied with bright, mouthwatering acidity, soft tannins, and a clean, fruit-driven finish with hints of baking spice.

Gaspard is a house label from Jenny and Francois Selections. The name, meaning 'bringer of treasure' in French, was developed collaboratively with Swedish artist Madlen Herrstrom, who also designed the label. The wine is made to the specifications of Jenny Lefcourt by a trusted local winemaker in the Loire Valley.

Serve lightly chilled alongside charcuterie, roast chicken, or a simple mushroom dish. The low tannins and high acidity make it surprisingly versatile with fish as well as meat. Fresh goat cheese is a classic Loire pairing that works particularly well here.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Gaspard

Jenny and Francois Selections was founded in 2000 by Jenny Lefcourt and her then-husband Francois Ecot. Lefcourt, a native New Yorker, was pursuing her PhD at Harvard in French film and literature when repeated visits to Parisian wine bars redirected her toward natural wine importing. She began carrying bottles in her suitcase from France to New York, and her early imports landed at influential Manhattan restaurants including Veritas and Gramercy Tavern. The company now operates from Tribeca and distributes to all 50 states.

Gaspard is a house label created by Jenny and Francois Selections, representing their direct collaboration with carefully selected winemakers in the central Loire Valley. Grapes are sourced from sustainable or organically farmed vineyards, with no herbicide use. The winemaker produces each wine to Jenny and Francois specifications using indigenous yeasts, with minimal intervention in the cellar. All Gaspard wines are filtered but not fined, and sulfite additions are kept very low.

The Gaspard Gamay undergoes semi-carbonic fermentation with indigenous yeasts, a method that emphasizes fresh fruit and floral character while keeping tannins minimal. After fermentation, the wine spends 8 months in stainless steel tanks, preserving its natural acidity and fruit clarity. Sulfites are kept below 30ppm. Swedish artist Madlen Herrstrom, based in Paris, designed the Gaspard label and contributed the name itself, which is a traditional French boy's name meaning 'bringer of treasure.'

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

The Loire Valley stretches roughly 1,000 kilometers across central France, from the Atlantic coast near Nantes eastward through Touraine and up toward the Auvergne hills. The region produces over 4 million hectoliters of wine per year across more than 80 appellations, encompassing a wide range of climates and soil types. In the west, the climate is maritime; moving east, it becomes increasingly semi-continental. Soils shift accordingly, from schist and granite in the far west to the tuffeau limestone, flinty clay, and clay-limestone combinations that dominate the central Touraine zone.

Gamay is one of the Loire's important red grapes, particularly in Touraine, where it accounts for more than 60% of the red harvest. In Touraine, Gamay grows primarily on clay-limestone and flinty clay soils, producing light, fruit-forward reds with vibrant acidity. The semi-continental climate of the central Loire provides cool nights and a long growing season that preserves natural acidity in the grapes. Other key red varieties in the region include Cabernet Franc, which dominates in Chinon, Bourgueil, and Saumur-Champigny, and Pineau d'Aunis, a rare indigenous variety with a peppery character.
