The Wine: Asarvos Orange 2020

Celler de les Aus Asarvos Orange 2020 is a skin-contact natural wine made from Xarel•lo grapes farmed organically in Catalunya, Spain. This wine is made naturally without any addition - native yeasts, no sulfites, unfiltered, unfined. Tropical fruits on the nose, balanced acidity, savory palate.

The Producer: Celler de les Aus

Celler de les Aus is part of the winery Alta Alella. Starting in 1992, the family winery farmed organically (certified) from inception and is now led by Josep's daughter Mireia Pujol-Busquets Alta Alella's winemaking practices incorporates understanding and adapting in a sustainable way to the present and future impacts of climate change. For example, the family has a natural seed study and selection practice which discovers the most resistant seeds to mildew and drought.

In the early 2000’s, Josep partnered with a friend to craft a Cava made with no addition of external yeasts, no external sugar, no addition of SO2. A Natural Cava. This was accomplished by using the must of Pansa Blanca (Xarel-lo) for the second fermentation. At first the wine was called NU. Many years later, the name changed to Bruant which is the name of a local bird. All of Celler de les Aus's wines are named after the birds that live in the Serralada de Marina’s Natural Park.

The process of making wine without addition of SO2 was new for Josep. He began with Pansa Blanca and named the wine Tallarol. Years later, Celler des les Aus & Alta Alella separated to demonstrate that the wines were made in different locations and did not influence each other.

The Region: Penedès

Penedès is a sub-region located west of Barcelona, in Catalunya, Spain. Penedès is Catalunya’s most important wine district and carries the status of DO, Denominación de Origen. The region is famous worldwide for its main product: the excellent Cava sparkling wine – made with the Champenoise method.

The Terroir of Penedès

Penedès has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The three subregions in which it can be divided, Baix Penedès, Medio Penedès, and Alt Penedès (where Azimut is located) – respectively low, middle, high Penedès, - have slightly different climates due primarily to altitude and distance from the coast. Soils range from calcareous, the prevalent formation, to sandy and clayey.

The Red Wines of Penedès

Red wines are usually blends of native varietals such as Tempranillo, Penedès main red grape varietal, Garnacha (Garnatxa), Monastrell, and Carinena. In recent years, a handful of producers have been experimenting with international varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with good results.

The White Wines of Penedès

White still wines, in other words, non-Cava white wines, are made from the same native varietals used for Catalunya’s flagship sparkler, Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada. Only recently Chardonnay has been used both in Cava blends and as a still wine, a trend that’s gaining popularity.

Shipping & Returns

Stress Free Shipping

At Primal Wine we like to be transparent about everything we do. When it comes to buying products online, shipping is the most important aspect, and that’s why we take great care in shipping and handling your order using only 100% recycled packaging material. We don't ship to: LA, KS, MS, AL, WI, KY, NH, UT, SD, MI, AR.

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, which will be determined based on quantity and shipping address. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Important Compliance Requirements

UPS and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older.

Important COVID Update

UPS and FedEx declared that in order to protect their workers and customers, they no longer require a signature on delivery. This does not mean they will drop a wine box at your door. UPS delivery workers will make sure the person receiving the wine is 21 years or older, and will ask for his/her name - only then do they deliver the package.

Shipping Rates and Options

An important premise: wine bottles are heavy – about 3 pounds each – and shipping is expensive! Primal Wine is not backed by venture capital money – we proudly are a mom and pop independent online store – and we must charge shipping on all orders under a certain amount, otherwise we wouldn’t be in business. However, we try our best to offer you very competitive shipping rates and frequent free shipping discount. Please subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop!
