Plantamura

Plantamura is a family-owned winery located in Gioia del Colle, Puglia, Italy, specializing exclusively in the production of Primitivo wines. Established in 2002 by Mariangela Plantamura and her husband Vincenzo, the winery builds upon a century-long family tradition of grape cultivation. Their vineyards are situated at an elevation of approximately 360 meters on the Murgia plateau, characterized by limestone-rich karst soils. This altitude contributes to cooler nighttime temperatures, aiding in the preservation of acidity in the grapes.

The Plantamuras practice organic viticulture across their 3.5 hectares of vineyards, employing massale selection to propagate new vines from their best old ones. They maintain low yields, often harvesting around 25 hectoliters per hectare, significantly below the permitted 80 hectoliters. Their vineyards are dry-farmed, relying on deep-rooted vines to access water from natural aquifers.

In the winery, Plantamura emphasizes minimal intervention, fermenting their wines in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks without the use of oak aging. This approach preserves the natural flavors and freshness of the Primitivo grape.
