Château Peybonhomme

Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours is a historic, family-run estate situated in the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary in southwestern France. Established in 1895 by Catherine Hubert’s great-grandfather, the château has remained under the stewardship of the Hubert family for six generations. The estate encompasses 64 hectares of vineyards perched on limestone and clay slopes, benefiting from the moderating influence of the nearby estuary and Atlantic Ocean. A notable feature of the property is its 17th-century crenellated tower, offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and the Gironde estuary.

Since 2000, Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours has been certified biodynamic, making it one of the earliest adopters of this farming practice in Bordeaux. The Hubert family employs organic and biodynamic methods in the vineyard, including the use of natural composts and herbal preparations, as well as following the lunar calendar for various viticultural activities. In the cellar, they utilize indigenous yeasts for fermentation and age their wines in a combination of concrete tanks, amphorae, and oak barrels, depending on the cuvée. This approach aims to produce wines that authentically express their terroir with minimal intervention.

The estate produces a range of wines, including red, white, and rosé. Their red wines are typically blends of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and occasionally Cabernet Sauvignon, offering a balance of ripe fruit, minerality, and structure. White wines, such as "Le Blanc Bonhomme," are crafted from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Colombard, showcasing freshness and a distinctive mineral character. The Huberts also experiment with innovative cuvées under the Vin de France designation, reflecting their commitment to both tradition and creativity in winemaking.

Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours stands as a testament to the potential of biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux, producing wines that are both expressive of their origin and aligned with sustainable practices. The estate continues to be managed by the Hubert family, with siblings Rachel and Guillaume representing the latest generation dedicated to upholding and advancing the family's winemaking legacy.
