This is the bottle that made non-alcoholic cocktails respectable. Thirty botanicals, among them Sicilian citrus, wild juniper from Tuscany, gentian root and hibiscus, and it is the gentian that does the real work: a negroni without proper bitterness is just a fruit drink.

It launched in 2022 and roughly doubled every year after, which is not a marketing achievement so much as people ordering it twice.

The Brand

St. Agrestis

St. Agrestis was started in Gowanus, Brooklyn in 2014 by two sommeliers, and handed three years later to brothers Louis and Matt Catizone with Steven DeAngelo of Greenhook Ginsmiths.

The Catizones grew up with amaro at the Sunday dinner table, sons of an Italian immigrant father, drinking the stuff long before Brooklyn discovered it. Watching non-alcoholic cocktails take hold in Europe, Louis wanted to see whether the same thing could work in the US.

The Phony Negroni launched in 2022 and revenue has roughly doubled every year since. It is the drink that made the category respectable.

Pantry FAQs

Pantry items are fulfilled by our partner retailer in California, so they ship on their own and will not arrive in the same box as your wine. Order both and you should expect two parcels, often on different days.

Wine requires an adult signature on delivery. Pantry items do not, so they can be left at your door like any ordinary parcel.

Most of what we carry is shelf stable until it is opened, and would rather sit in a cool dark cupboard than on a sunny counter. Anything that needs refrigerating once opened says so on the label.
