Why we like it

This refined Douro red delivers silky minerality and bright berry freshness, embodying the elegance of high-altitude Portuguese viticulture with restrained power and graceful balance.

LIGHT BODYFULL BODY
Description

Pormenor Douro Tinto showcases a masterful blend of indigenous Douro varieties, predominantly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, and Rufete. Crafted by winemaker Pedro Coelho from 60+ year-old vines planted above 500 meters in Soutelo do Douro, this wine reflects the region's distinctive schist terroir. The grapes undergo fermentation and maceration in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, followed by 18 months aging in used French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Violet-hued with discreet aromas featuring fresh, mineral notes reminiscent of wet stone. The palate reveals vibrant red fruit, well-integrated acidity, and elegant toasted oak nuances with medium-long finish.

Food pairings

Pairs beautifully with red meats, game, and roasted fatty fish.

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

Pormenor

Pormenor is a boutique Portuguese wine producer founded by Pedro Coelho in the Douro Valley, specializing in minimal intervention wines that showcase native grape varieties and traditional terroir. The name "Pormenor," meaning "detail" in Portuguese, reflects Coelho's meticulous approach to winemaking. Based in a humble garage-turned-winery, Pormenor sources grapes from old vineyards across the Douro Superior and Cima Corgo regions, working with vines ranging from 50 to 100 years old planted at high altitudes between 500-700 meters on schist soils.

Coelho, who gained experience at prestigious estates like Quinta do Portal and Niepoort under the influence of Luis Seabra, focuses on low-intervention techniques using indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfur, and no temperature control. His portfolio emphasizes native Portuguese varieties including Rabigato, Malvasia Fina, Codega do Larinho for whites, and traditional Douro field blends of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Rufete for reds. The wines are characterized by freshness, elegance, moderate alcohol levels, and distinctive mineral profiles that authentically express each vintage's natural conditions while preserving the unique character of Portugal's ancient viticultural heritage.

Wine region

Douro Valley, Portugal

The Douro Valley stands as one of Portugal's most spectacular and historically significant wine regions, carved by the Douro River as it winds through dramatic terraced hillsides from the Spanish border to Porto. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ancient viticultural landscape has produced wine for over 2,000 years, gaining international fame as the birthplace of Port wine in the 17th century.

The region divides into three distinct sub-zones: the cooler, Atlantic-influenced Baixo Corgo near Porto; the central Cima Corgo around Pinhão, considered the heart of premium Port production; and the continental Douro Superior extending to the Spanish frontier. The valley's unique terroir combines steep schist and granite slopes with extreme temperature variations, creating ideal conditions for both fortified and table wines.

While historically dominated by Port production, the Douro has experienced a renaissance in dry table wines since the 1990s. The region's indigenous grape varieties—including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz for reds, and Rabigato, Viosinho, Gouveio for whites—produce wines of remarkable complexity and aging potential. Modern Douro table wines showcase elegant minerality, balanced acidity, and distinctive terroir expression, establishing the region as Portugal's premier fine wine destination beyond its famous fortified heritage.
