Tasting notes

Pale straw in the glass, with a heady, floral perfume that is unmistakably Muscat: white flowers, grape blossom, citrus zest, and a hint of fresh herbs. The palate is bone-dry, light-bodied, and aromatic, with crisp acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish that makes it a versatile, refreshing aperitif.

Kuentz-Bas Muscat 2024 is a dry, aromatic white wine from Alsace, France, crafted from one of the region's four Noble grapes. Maison Kuentz-Bas was first established by the Kuentz family in 1795, and the domaine as we know it today was forged through a marriage that joined the Kuentz and Bas families in 1895. The estate sits in the town of Husseren-les-Châteaux at one of the highest points in Alsace, where cool conditions preserve freshness and aging potential in the wines. Kuentz-Bas has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2008, with a minimal-intervention winemaking approach and limited use of sulfur.

Dry Alsace Muscat shines as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with fresh asparagus, spring vegetables, and shellfish. Try it with goat cheese, light Asian fare, or a bowl of fresh strawberries to highlight its grapey, floral aromatics. It is also a classic match for charcuterie and lean fish.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Kuentz-Bas

Maison Kuentz-Bas was first established by the Kuentz family in 1795, and the domaine as we know it today was forged through a marriage that joined the Kuentz and Bas families in 1895. Nestled in the town of Husseren-les-Châteaux, Kuentz-Bas sits at one of the highest points in Alsace. More than two hundred years of tradition and vineyard pedigree have made these wines perennial favorites, with the grand crus of Eichberg and Pfersigberg earning the highest esteem, and when the family sold the property to famed vigneron Jean-Baptiste Adam in 2004, many wondered what direction the new team would take.

Adam, like the estate's former owners, has a reputation for being an advocate of Alsatian terroir, and he is the fourteenth generation to continue a family winemaking tradition that began as early as 1614, and eager to restore Kuentz-Bas to its former glory, Adam lowered yields significantly and reverted to natural methods, following organic and biodynamic approaches to vineyard work. Kuentz-Bas has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2008. The estate owns 10 hectares of vineyards that are certified biodynamic and 6 hectares are organic, with vines ranging in age from 25 to 45 years, total production comes from 30 hectares on the steep slopes in and around the village of Husseren-les-Châteaux, and all grapes are hand-harvested.

The winemaking process prioritizes minimal intervention, with no added yeasts or fining agents, and limited use of sulfur, keeping the focus on the grapes so that each wine authentically reflects its terroir. For the Muscat, hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed and fermented slowly at cool temperatures in stainless steel to preserve the variety's signature floral and grapey aromatics. The wine is bottled dry, with crisp acidity and no oak influence.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace sits in northeastern France along the German border, sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, which create one of the driest climates in France and long, sunny growing seasons that preserve acidity. The region is noted for its variable terroir, representing 13 unique soil types. The result is a mosaic of vineyards capable of producing some of the world's most expressive aromatic white wines.

Alsace is known for its aromatic still whites, predominantly Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat, the four Noble grapes, but also yields Cremant d'Alsace made in the Methode Traditionnelle and some Pinot Noir. In Alsace, several variations of the Muscat grape are grown and used to produce dry wines that retain Muscat's beautiful and complex aromatics, and it is considered a noble grape, with grands crus from the best sites among the region's longest-lived wines.
