Product description

Cirelli Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2024 comes from Francesco Cirelli's certified organic estate near Atri in the Teramo hills, just eight kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. The wine is made from 100% Trebbiano grapes grown on clay and limestone soils. Whole bunches are gently pressed, and the juice undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks without temperature control. Cirelli Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2024 rests on fine lees for four months before bottling without fining or filtration. Minimal sulfites are added. This organic white reflects Francesco Cirelli's commitment to minimal-intervention winemaking. 12% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Agricola Cirelli

Francesco Cirelli and his partner Michela founded Agricola Cirelli in 2003, seeking a return to rural life after Francesco's career in business. They settled near the ancient town of Atri in Teramo province, establishing a 22-hectare certified organic farm eight kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. The property received organic certification in 2006 and biodynamic certification in 2021.

The estate operates as a complete farming organism rather than simply a winery. Vineyards share the land with olive groves, wheat fields, fig trees, and livestock including geese, sheep, and black pigs. This biodiversity supports natural pest control and soil health, with animals providing manure for fertilization and geese managing weeds between vine rows.

Francesco cultivates four indigenous grape varieties—Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Cerasuolo—on clay-limestone soils. Yields remain low, around 40-45 quintals per hectare, well below the 150 quintals permitted by appellation regulations. He harvests each variety multiple times, using variations in ripeness to build complexity in the finished wines.

In the cellar, Cirelli works with indigenous yeasts and avoids oak entirely. The Classic Line wines ferment and age in stainless steel, while the Amphora Line uses custom-designed terracotta vessels made by an artisan in Impruneta, Florence. These amphorae feature stainless steel lids to minimize oxidation while allowing gentle micro-oxygenation that softens tannins. Francesco describes the amphora as vessels that "do nothing to the wine"—which is precisely their purpose.

The estate also offers agritourism through glamping accommodations, allowing visitors to experience the farm's philosophy firsthand. Francesco has become a leading voice among Abruzzo's quality-focused producers, demonstrating that the region can produce wines of character and authenticity.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo stretches along Italy's central Adriatic coast, a region defined by dramatic contrasts between the Gran Sasso mountain peaks and the sea. Viticulture here dates to Roman times, though the modern wine industry only shifted toward quality production in the 1990s after decades dominated by cooperatives and bulk wine.

The region's geography creates distinct microclimates across its wine zones. Coastal vineyards near Pescara and Teramo benefit from maritime breezes that moderate temperatures and extend the growing season. Inland, the Apennine foothills provide elevation and diurnal temperature variation, preserving acidity in the grapes. Soils vary from clay and limestone in the hills to sandy alluvial deposits closer to the coast.

Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC represents the region's most important white wine designation, producing styles ranging from crisp and mineral-driven to rich and textured depending on winemaking approach. The local Trebbiano Abruzzese clone differs from Trebbiano Toscano, yielding wines with more character and aging potential when yields are kept low. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo remains the flagship red, while Pecorino and Passerina have gained recognition among white varieties.

The Colline Teramane DOCG, one of only two DOCGs in Abruzzo, occupies the northern hills of Teramo province where many quality-focused producers have established estates. This area combines maritime influence from the nearby Adriatic with the cooling effects of the Gran Sasso massif to the west.

A new generation of winemakers has embraced organic and biodynamic farming, positioning Abruzzo as an important source of natural wines. These producers favor indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention, and traditional vessels including the revival of amphora fermentation.
