LIGHT BODYFULL BODY
  • Style: Dry, light-bodied red with vivid cranberry and herbal character; best served chilled; approachable and lively, with the bright, poppy acidity typical of the carbonic maceration technique applied to this Piedmontese variety blend
  • Grapes & terroir: Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo co-fermented, with small inclusions of other Piedmontese varieties; Fox Hill Vineyard, Talmage Bench, Mendocino County, California; organically farmed on sandstone-based, rocky alluvial soils with significant quartz; 650 feet elevation
  • Winemaking: Full carbonic maceration in polyethylene tanks, approximately 10 days; followed by foot-trodden maceration for 2 days; bladder-pressed; native yeast fermentation; 5 months on lees in stainless steel, Flextank, and old barrels; bottled unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfur
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve chilled at 50–54°F; no decanting required; the wine is designed for immediate, enjoyable drinking and does not benefit from extended air contact
  • Pairing: Pizza margherita
  • Similar to: A fresh Beaujolais-Villages or a natural carbonic Gamay from the Loire, with the same light-bodied, fruit-forward, chillable character; the presence of Arneis in the co-ferment adds a floral, white-fruit dimension

Vibrant, natural red blend from Ruth Lewandowski Wines, showcasing bright cranberry aromas, juicy red fruit flavors, and refreshing acidity, culminating in a clean, invigorating finish.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Ruth Lewandowski

Ruth Lewandowski Wines was founded in 2012 by Evan Lewandowski, a winemaker who grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and discovered wine seriously while attending the University of Utah. His path eventually took him to Alsace, where he worked for several seasons at Domaine Binner, gaining hands-on experience in organic and biodynamic viticulture and natural winemaking. When he returned to the United States, he began building a wine project rooted in two core convictions: that wine made from organically farmed grapes with genuine human attention expresses its origin faithfully, and that the cellar's job is to stay out of the way.

The winery draws its name and its ethos from the Book of Ruth in the Old Testament. The story's central themes of gleaning, loyalty, and finding purpose in another's harvest field mirror Lewandowski's own practice of sourcing from other growers' vineyards and working with the character each season and site provides. His principal sources are Fox Hill Vineyard and Testa Vineyard in Mendocino County, both organically farmed heritage sites with vine plantings that reflect the vision of their respective owners rather than commercial considerations.

The Feints label, drawing on the same Italian varieties planted at Fox Hill in the late 1980s, has become one of Ruth Lewandowski's most recognizable wines — a co-fermented carbonic field blend that changes slightly in composition each vintage as Lewandowski incorporates additional varieties from the vineyard alongside the core Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo. Everything in the cellar is done without additions: no sulfur, no fining agents, no filtration. Wines are bottled when Lewandowski judges them ready, after several months on their lees.

Wine region

California, United States

Mendocino County sits at the northern end of California's North Coast wine corridor, above Sonoma County and below the Oregon border. The county encompasses a wide range of growing conditions across its valleys and ridges: the cold, fog-driven Anderson Valley in the far west, which is well suited to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wine; the warmer Ukiah Valley and Redwood Valley further inland, which have historically been associated with Zinfandel, Carignan, and Grenache; and the Yorkville Highlands in the south, a cooler high-elevation zone gaining attention for its aromatic varieties and structured reds.

Fox Hill Vineyard, the source of the fruit for Ruth Lewandowski Feints 2024, is located in the Mendocino AVA proper, on the Talmage Bench between the towns of Hopland and Ukiah. The bench sits just above the Russian River floodplain and is composed of uplifted former riverbed sediment, with predominantly sandstone-based, rocky, pebbly soils containing a significant proportion of quartz. These well-drained, low-fertility soils limit vine vigor and produce grapes of concentrated flavor at relatively modest yields. The vineyard sits at around 650 feet above sea level, which provides a moderate altitude benefit without pushing into the cool-climate extremes of higher ridgeline sites.

What makes Fox Hill distinctive in the California wine landscape is its variety composition. Owner Lowell Stone replanted the property in the late 1980s almost entirely to Italian varieties sourced from nurseries and personal connections, creating a site that functions as a repository for Piedmontese, Venetian, and other northern Italian grape varieties rarely planted in California. This makes it a primary source for producers like Ruth Lewandowski who are looking to work outside the mainstream California variety palette.
