Tasting notes

Barbera's natural acidity is dialed up here by marl soils and cement aging, giving the wine a clean, almost electric freshness that makes it cut right through food. The 10-day skin contact adds enough structure to keep it interesting without any of the weight — dark cherry, plum, and a whisper of leather on the finish. At 1 liter, it's built for the table.

E' Rosso! is 100% Barbera grown organically on the hills around Carrù, on the western edge of the Langhe in southern Piedmont. The Cellario family farms 13 hectares of vines across five sites on soils composed primarily of marl, clay, and limestone, with some tuff. Grapes are hand-harvested into small bins and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts.

Maceration on the skins lasts ten days, giving the wine good color and extraction while keeping it juicy and fresh. It is then aged for twelve months in 100-hectoliter cement tanks — a neutral vessel that preserves fruit clarity and adds a subtle earthy, slightly leathery edge. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with approximately 10ppm of added sulfur.

Bottled in a 1-liter format, E' Rosso! is exactly what the name says: it's red. The wine reads deep ruby in the glass, with Barbera's characteristic high acidity keeping the palate lively. Dark cherry, blackberry, and plum are the main fruit notes, underlined by a touch of spice and the faint mineral quality that comes from the marl-heavy soils.

This is Poderi Cellario's everyday table wine — priced and sized to pour freely, chill slightly, and share with food. It carries no appellation designation and is labeled Vino Rosso, fitting its unpretentious purpose.

Barbera's high acidity makes it a natural match for tomato-based dishes — pasta al pomodoro, margherita pizza, or a simple ragu all work well. It also holds up to cured meats, grilled sausage, and aged Piemontese cheeses like Castelmagno. Serve slightly cool, around 58-62F, to keep the fruit bright.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

Producer profile

Poderi Cellario

Poderi Cellario is based in the village of Carrù on the western edge of the southern Langhe in Piedmont. Fausto and Cinzia Cellario are the third generation of their family to make wine here. The estate covers 30 hectares in total, including 13 hectares of vines spread across five vineyard sites in the southern Langhe, with additional hazelnut fields and woodland. Their holdings include plots in Novello and Monforte, and a parcel on the San Luigi hill in the Dogliani DOCG, which they consider their most prestigious land.

The family works exclusively with indigenous Piedmontese grape varieties: Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Freisa, Grignolino, and several rarer native varieties. Vineyard farming is organic. All fermentations use only indigenous yeasts. Sulfur is added only in small quantities at bottling when deemed necessary — a practice uncommon at their production scale. Cinzia's allergy to sulfites has been a practical driver of this approach, resulting in most wines receiving minimal or no added sulfur.

In the cellar, Fausto ages wines in neutral vessels: large cement tanks, large oak, and raw amphora depending on the wine. No new wood is used. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The È line — which includes E' Rosso!, E' Bianco!, and E' Orange! — is bottled in 1-liter format and designed as direct, unpretentious everyday drinking wine. The family describes their winemaking philosophy as one of minimal intervention, allowing each vintage and each variety to express itself without correction or manipulation.

Wine region

Piedmont, Italy

Piedmont sits in the northwest corner of Italy, bordered by the Alps to the north and west and the Apennines to the south. The name translates to 'foot of the mountains,' and the geography holds: the Langhe and Monferrato hills rise from the Tanaro River valley, with vineyard elevations ranging from roughly 200 to 600 meters. The climate is continental, with warm, dry summers and cold winters. Significant diurnal temperature shifts during the growing season preserve acidity in the grapes. The Alps act as a barrier against excessive rainfall, while morning fog — nebbia in Italian — is a regular feature in autumn, particularly in the lower valleys.

Piedmont contains more DOC and DOCG appellations than any other Italian region. The Langhe is the heartland, home to Barolo and Barbaresco DOCG (both Nebbiolo-based), as well as Barbera d'Alba DOC and Dolcetto d'Alba DOC. Soils across the southern Langhe are predominantly composed of calcareous marl, clay, and limestone, with pockets of tuff of volcanic origin. Barbera is Piedmont's most widely planted red grape variety, historically considered the everyday drinking wine of the region alongside the more prestigious Nebbiolo. Key Barbera appellations include Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, and the Nizza DOCG sub-zone.
