Domaine Gross

Domaine Gross is a family estate in Gueberschwihr, Alsace, founded by Louis Gross — a blacksmith by trade — who began bottling wine commercially around 1956. The estate started at 2.5 hectares. In the early 1980s, Rémy Gross took over from his parents. Vincent Gross, Rémy's son, joined the domaine in the early 2000s and is now co-director alongside his father. The vineyard has since grown to 10 hectares.

The estate has farmed biodynamically since 2006 and received organic (AB) certification in 2014. Vineyard treatments rely on biodynamic preparations (compost, 500, 501) and plant-based sprays including nettle and horsetail. All harvesting is done by hand with parcel-level sorting in the vineyard. Parcels are spread across several named lieux-dits around Gueberschwihr — including Mittelweg, Neuweg, Rebgarten, and Osperling — as well as plots in the Goldert Grand Cru.

Beginning in 2016, Vincent shifted the domaine's focus toward skin-maceration wines and sparkling wines, inspired in part by a visit to Friuli. Fermentations use indigenous yeast only, with no added sulfites for most cuvées. Aging takes place in oak foudres and stainless steel tanks for 6 to 12 months depending on the wine. Since 2021, Vincent has also been experimenting with qvevri (clay jars) for certain cuvées. The Rhapsodie Blanc pet-nat is made via méthode ancestrale: bottled mid-fermentation and sealed, with the wine finishing in the bottle on its own residual CO2.
