Tasting notes

This is Muscat at its most transparent: orange blossom and mandarin orange lifted by a creamy, delicate mousse and balanced by dry, medium acidity with a grapefruit-zest finish. The méthode ancestrale approach keeps the wine alive without the weight of secondary fermentation additions.

Rhapsodie Blanc is a pétillant naturel made from 100% Muscat by Rémy and Vincent Gross in Gueberschwihr, Alsace. The wine is labeled Vin de France. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted in the vineyard, and bottled before fermentation is complete so that the wine finishes in the bottle — the méthode ancestrale — producing a gentle, creamy mousse with no disgorgement.

On the nose: orange blossom, honeysuckle, mandarin orange, and a hint of white pepper. On the palate the wine is dry with medium acidity, light effervescence, and flavors of mandarin orange, orange blossom, and grapefruit zest. No added sulfites, unfined, unfiltered.

Domaine Gross farms 10 hectares biodynamically on the limestone and marl-limestone slopes of Gueberschwihr, a village about 12 kilometers south of Colmar. The estate has held organic (AB) certification since 2014 and has practiced biodynamics since 2006. Vineyard work is entirely manual, using biodynamic preparations 500 and 501 alongside plant-based treatments.

Muscat is one of the historically significant grapes of Gueberschwihr, well-suited to the area's oolithic limestone soils and east-facing slopes, which promote slow, even ripening and retained aromatic freshness.

Serve as an aperitif alongside charcuterie, fresh goat cheese, or smoked salmon. The dry, floral character works well with lightly spiced Asian dishes — think Vietnamese spring rolls or Thai larb. Also a good match for fruit-forward desserts that are not heavily sweet, such as peach tart or apricot sorbet.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine Gross

Domaine Gross is a family estate in Gueberschwihr, Alsace, founded by Louis Gross — a blacksmith by trade — who began bottling wine commercially around 1956. The estate started at 2.5 hectares. In the early 1980s, Rémy Gross took over from his parents. Vincent Gross, Rémy's son, joined the domaine in the early 2000s and is now co-director alongside his father. The vineyard has since grown to 10 hectares.

The estate has farmed biodynamically since 2006 and received organic (AB) certification in 2014. Vineyard treatments rely on biodynamic preparations (compost, 500, 501) and plant-based sprays including nettle and horsetail. All harvesting is done by hand with parcel-level sorting in the vineyard. Parcels are spread across several named lieux-dits around Gueberschwihr — including Mittelweg, Neuweg, Rebgarten, and Osperling — as well as plots in the Goldert Grand Cru.

Beginning in 2016, Vincent shifted the domaine's focus toward skin-maceration wines and sparkling wines, inspired in part by a visit to Friuli. Fermentations use indigenous yeast only, with no added sulfites for most cuvées. Aging takes place in oak foudres and stainless steel tanks for 6 to 12 months depending on the wine. Since 2021, Vincent has also been experimenting with qvevri (clay jars) for certain cuvées. The Rhapsodie Blanc pet-nat is made via méthode ancestrale: bottled mid-fermentation and sealed, with the wine finishing in the bottle on its own residual CO2.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace runs along France's northeastern border with Germany, stretching roughly 170 kilometers from Wissembourg in the north to Thann in the south. The Vosges Mountains to the west create a significant rain shadow, making Alsace one of the driest wine regions in France — Colmar averages around 500mm of rainfall annually. This continental climate produces warm, dry summers and cold winters, with long growing seasons that favor slow phenolic ripening, especially on east- and southeast-facing slopes.

The region produces predominantly white wines from a defined set of grapes: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Sylvaner. The Alsace AOC covers the full region, while 51 designated Grand Cru sites have their own appellation. Gueberschwihr, located 12 kilometers south of Colmar in the Haut-Rhin, is home to the Goldert Grand Cru, whose geological substratum is composed solely of marine oolithic limestone — unique in Alsace. This soil warms slowly and retains acidity in the grapes, making it historically well-suited to Gewurztraminer and Muscat.
