Tasting notes

Sabbia delivers the kind of low-alcohol tension that is hard to find: citrus pith, dried apricot, and a saline mineral pull from the sandy Amaseno Valley soils, all under 11% ABV. The 48-hour skin contact gives enough grip and amber color to read as a proper orange wine without tipping into tannin. Two almost-forgotten Lazio grapes doing exactly what they were meant to do.

Sabbia is a skin-contact orange wine from Sete Vini Naturali, made from 60% Ottonese and 40% Malvasia Puntinata grown in old vineyards in the Amaseno River Valley near Priverno, in the Province of Latina, southern Lazio. The name means "sand" in Italian, a reference to the sandy soils these old vines are rooted in. The wine is produced by Emiliano Giorgi and Arcangelo Galuppi, who founded Sete in 2013 to rescue abandoned and semi-abandoned vineyard parcels from local elderly farmers.

Ottonese is the Lazio synonym for Bombino Bianco, an ancient variety known in the region for producing wines that are distinctly citrusy and mineral. Malvasia Puntinata, also called Malvasia del Lazio, is a natural cross of Moscato di Alessandria and Schiava Grossa, and contributes floral aromatics, apricot character, and a sapid, mineral finish. Together the two grapes make a wine that is bright, textured, and low in alcohol.

The grapes are wild-yeast fermented with 48 hours of skin contact, then aged for approximately 6 months on the fine lees in fiberglass vats. No sulfites are added at any stage. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Sete farms organically, certified by Suolo e Salute (Soil and Health). All vineyard work is done by hand. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve the character of individual parcels.

The wine's salinity and citrus-driven acidity make it well suited to seafood: grilled branzino, raw oysters, or fried anchovies. It also works well alongside mild sheep's milk cheeses, cured meats, or a plate of marinated vegetables. The light body and low alcohol make it an easy match at the table throughout a meal.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Sete Vini Naturali

Sete Vini Naturali was founded in 2013 by Emiliano Giorgi and Arcangelo Galuppi in Priverno, a small town in the Province of Latina, southern Lazio, near the Circeo National Park. The name Sete means "thirst" in Italian. Emiliano worked two vintages in 2010 and 2011 at Le Coste di Gradoli under Gianmarco Antonuzi, which shaped the natural winemaking approach he and Arcangelo brought to their own project.

Sete operates as an agricultural, social, and cultural project focused on recovering old and abandoned vineyard parcels in the Amaseno River Valley, in the municipalities of Priverno, Roccagorga, Maenza, and Roccasecca dei Volsci. The project began by purchasing grapes from and renting vineyards belonging to elderly local farmers. Sete currently works approximately 3 hectares divided into 11 parcels. Farming is certified organic by Suolo e Salute. All vineyard work is done by hand, with no pesticides or synthetic chemicals used.

Sete vinifies each vineyard parcel separately, working with indigenous and near-forgotten grape varieties including Ottonese, Malvasia Puntinata, Cesanese, Nero Buono, Bonamico, and Moscato Bianco. Fermentation is spontaneous using indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in fiberglass or stainless steel tanks on the lees. No sulfites are added at any stage, and all wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Wine region

Lazio, Italy

Lazio occupies the central-western coast of Italy, bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Apennine mountains to the east. The region encompasses a range of landscapes from volcanic hills around Rome and Lake Bolsena in the north to the flat coastal plains and river valleys of the south. The Amaseno River Valley, in the Province of Latina, sits between the Monti Lepini range and the Circeo National Park, roughly 100 kilometers south of Rome. The climate here is Mediterranean, moderated by sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian coast, with warm summers and mild winters. Soils in the area are mixed, with sandy alluvial deposits in the valley floor and volcanic-influenced clay-limestone on the surrounding hills.

Lazio has over 200 documented grape varieties, though its wines remain less internationally recognized than those of neighboring Tuscany or Campania. The region is historically associated with white wines based on Trebbiano and Malvasia, best known through Frascati DOC and Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone DOC in the north. Cesanese del Piglio holds the region's only DOCG for red wine. In the southern province of Latina, where no major DOC appellations exist, indigenous varieties such as Ottonese, Malvasia Puntinata, Cesanese, and Nero Buono di Cori are being revived by a new generation of natural wine producers working outside of DOC frameworks.
