Tasting notes

Ròdon leads with wild rose and wild strawberry on the nose, then turns savory and mineral on the palate — white pepper, saline finish, and snappy acidity that keeps it interesting through the whole bottle. At 12% ABV from organically farmed Corvina and Rondinella, it drinks like the Lake Garda table wine it is meant to be.

Ròdon is the rosé of Le Fraghe, made from 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella grown on the glacial moraine soils of the Bardolino DOC on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. Matilde Poggi vinifies the two varieties separately, giving the must a 6-8 hour cold maceration on skins before fermentation at 17°C. The wine then rests on fine lees in stainless steel through the winter and is bottled the following spring under screwcap to preserve its fresh aromatics.

The result is a pale, rose-tinted wine with aromas of wild rose and wild strawberry underscored by redcurrant and a faint bitter herb note. On the palate it is dry, crisp, and saline, with white pepper cutting through the fruit and bright acidity giving it real drive. This is not a neutral, faded rosé — the Corvina brings genuine personality and a savory edge that holds up well with food.

Ròdon is produced from the same organically farmed estate fruit as Le Fraghe's Bardolino Classico, with a portion of the juice bled off at the start of red wine fermentation. The Bardolino Classico benefits from the more concentrated solid-to-liquid ratio that remains, and the Chiaretto gains depth from being tied to a red wine fermentation rather than produced as a standalone direct press. At 12% ABV, it is light enough to drink through a meal.

Pair with grilled branzino, salmon with capers, seafood antipasti, or a simple pasta with clam sauce. The saline mineral finish also works well against fresh goat cheese or prosciutto. Light enough to serve slightly chilled as an aperitivo.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Le Fraghe

Le Fraghe is located in Cavaion Veronese, just east of Lake Garda, in the heart of the Bardolino production zone. The Poggi family has owned the property — including a 15th-century stone farmhouse — since 1880. Prior to 1984, the family sold their grapes to other wineries in the area. Matilde Poggi made the first Le Fraghe vintage in 1984 and has run the estate ever since. She has also served as president of FIVI, the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers, and of CEVI, the European Confederation of Independent Winegrowers.

Matilde farms 28 hectares of estate vineyards planted primarily with Corvina, along with Rondinella and a small amount of Garganega. The estate has been certified organic since 2009 in the vineyard and since 2012 in the cellar. All grapes are hand-harvested. Le Fraghe uses fewer grapes per hectare than the DOC maximum — choosing 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella rather than the wider permitted blend — a formula Poggi has refined over decades of working with her specific soils and microclimate.

Fermentations are conducted with native yeasts using a pied de cuve prepared from each vineyard. The cellar relies on stainless steel, unglazed cement, and terracotta amphora — no new oak. Malolactic conversion is avoided for the white and rosé wines to retain acidity. Ròdon is cold-macerated for 6-8 hours at low temperature, fermented at 17°C, and aged on fine lees in stainless steel until the following spring. Screwcap closures have been used since 2008, specifically to preserve freshness in the Chiaretto and Garganega.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

The Bardolino DOC sits on the eastern shore of Lake Garda in the Veneto, covering 16 communes from the lakeshore up into hills that reach 65 to 350 meters above sea level. The zone was officially established in 1968, making it one of Veneto's earliest recognized appellations. Soils are glacial moraine — gravel, pebbles, clay, and limestone deposits left by ancient glaciers that carved the Lake Garda basin. A double daily wind pattern, blowing north to south in the morning and reversing in the evening, combined with the thermal moderating effect of the lake (Italy's largest at 370 square kilometers), gives the area a distinctly Mediterranean-like climate despite its proximity to the Alps.

The same indigenous grapes used in nearby Valpolicella — principally Corvina Veronese and Rondinella — anchor Bardolino production, though the lighter soils, lower yields, and lake influence produce wines that are structurally lighter and higher in acidity than their Valpolicella counterparts. Bardolino Chiaretto, the rosé category of the appellation, has grown substantially in international recognition. Bardolino Superiore achieved DOCG status in 2001. Other key appellations in the broader Veneto include Soave (Garganega), Valpolicella and Amarone, and Prosecco from Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
