Product description

Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato 2023 is a natural rosé from Gradoli in northern Lazio, overlooking Lake Bolsena's volcanic crater. This certified organic wine blends Aleatico, Sangiovese, and Merlot—vinified with minimal skin contact—alongside Procanico, which undergoes brief maceration. Winemakers Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and bottle without fining, filtration, or added sulfites. Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato 2023 draws character from iron-rich volcanic soils, delivering a dry, vibrant rosé in a generous one-liter format ideal for sharing. 12% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Le Coste

Le Coste has achieved cult status among natural wine enthusiasts since Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron founded the estate in 2004. They arrived in Gradoli with considerable experience, having worked for legendary French producers including Bruno Schueller in Alsace, Didier Barral in Languedoc, Dard et Ribo in the Rhône, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Marcel Lapierre in Beaujolais, and Philippe Pacalet in Burgundy. Gianmarco, a law graduate and sommelier, grew up in this area and recognized the potential of its volcanic terroirs.

They began with three hectares of abandoned land and have expanded to roughly 14 hectares comprising vineyards, olive groves, chestnut trees, and oak forests. The estate overlooks Lake Bolsena, with vines planted at densities up to 10,000 plants per hectare, including massale selections and ungrafted vines. While not officially Demeter-certified, their biodynamic practices often exceed certification requirements—copper and sulfur treatments, when used at all, remain well below permitted levels.

Clémentine, trained as an agronomist, manages viticulture while Gianmarco handles cellar work. They vinify in an ancient cellar in Gradoli's village center, using old barriques and botti. Nothing is added at any stage—fermentation relies entirely on indigenous yeasts, and wines are bottled without fining, filtration, or sulfur. Each vintage produces a dizzying array of cuvées, each with distinct personality.

The "Litrozzo" wines represent their most accessible range—generous one-liter bottles designed for everyday drinking. The name playfully suggests casual, voluminous enjoyment. These wines showcase Le Coste's philosophy at friendly prices while demonstrating that zero-compromise natural winemaking can yield thoroughly drinkable results.

Wine region

Lazio, Italy

Northern Lazio remains one of Italy's best-kept viticultural secrets, a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic activity where vines have grown since Etruscan times. Lake Bolsena—Europe's largest volcanic crater lake—dominates the terrain, its round shape a reminder of eruptions that created the mineral-rich soils prized by winemakers today.

The village of Gradoli sits on slopes cascading toward the lake's northern shore, roughly 150 kilometers from Rome and close to the Umbrian border. This area, part of Alta Tuscia, enjoys a climate neither fully Mediterranean nor continental, with the lake moderating temperature extremes and extending the growing season. Morning mists give way to warm days, while cool nights preserve acidity in the grapes.

Volcanic soils here are exceptionally rich in iron, minerals, and volcanic ash—elements that translate into wines with distinctive saline, flinty character. The steep hillsides require hand labor, but this difficulty yields concentrated fruit from vines forced to struggle for nutrients. Many vineyards are planted at densities exceeding 10,000 vines per hectare.

Lazio's broader wine identity centers on white varieties—Malvasia and Trebbiano dominate, particularly in Frascati and Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone. Yet the Gradoli area preserves indigenous varieties rarely seen elsewhere: Procanico (a local Trebbiano variant), Roscetto, Aleatico, and Grechetto Rosso. Red grapes like Sangiovese and Merlot have naturalized over generations.

A new wave of natural winemakers has revived interest in this forgotten corner, embracing organic and biodynamic farming while vinifying without additives. Their wines reflect volcanic terroir with unusual clarity, offering character and freshness distinct from more famous Italian regions.
