The Wine: Free Your Body 2020
Wonderwerk Free Your Body is a skin-contact natural wine made from 100% Grenache Blanc from Martian Ranch, Santa Barbara County, AVA, Los Alamos, biodynamically farmed. The fruit was picked in nearly equal portions over two passes on September 11 and September 15 at an average of 21.1° Brix. The first half was foot treaded and fermented on the skins for 7 days, then pressed to stainless steel tank. The second half was direct to press, cold settled, then married with the first half. The Cuveé was aged on lees in stainless steel for 2 months, then racked to neutral French Oak barrique for 3 months. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, with 15 ppm sulfur (kmbs) added at bottling.
The Producer: Wonderwerk
Wonderwerk (House of Fermentation) is Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two high school friends from Virginia seeking new directions in fermentation. We live in LA (Echo Park!) and make supernatural wines from all over California. We produce and bottle with our own hands and feet. We ride the wavelength from low-intervention to high-innovation, making collaborative ideas come to life in funky new ways. Wonderwerk began as a long night on a disco dancefloor (Despacio!) wound down and we didn’t want the party to end. Now, it’s flowed from there into the wines you see and drink today.
