Tasting notes

This is a wine built around salinity and tension rather than fruit. The Cartoixa Vermell adds a subtle skin-contact texture and a faint blush color that makes it feel more interesting than the label price suggests. At 11% ABV it stays energetic through a full glass.

BN stands for Blanco Natural, and this is Partida Creus's entry-level white from the Massís de Bonastre in Baix Penedès, Catalonia. The 2019 is a blend of 90% Macabeo and 10% Cartoixa Vermell, a pink-skinned mutation of Xarel·lo that lends the wine a faint peachy hue. Vines average around 35 years old and are grown on the clay-limestone soils characteristic of Baix Penedès.

Winemaking is genuinely hands-off. Each variety is fermented separately using native yeasts in a combination of stainless steel tanks and 300-liter neutral oak casks, with brief skin contact before pressing. No sulfur is added at any stage — Massimo and Antonella stopped all sulfur additions in 2013. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined.

The result is a low-alcohol white (11%) with briny, saline character, hay and citrus on the nose, and a palate that runs toward orange zest, fennel, and mouthwatering acidity. It is light in body but has the textural density of a wine with some skin contact. The salinity and length are the signatures of the house style.

Pour this alongside fried anchovies or boquerones, steamed clams in white wine, or a plate of jamón ibérico. The briny acidity cuts through fat and complements anything from the sea. It also works well with fresh goat cheese or a simple green salad with citrus dressing.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Partida Creus

Partida Creus was founded around 2001 by Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, architects originally from Piedmont, Italy, who moved to Barcelona in the mid-1990s and later relocated to the village of Bonastre in Baix Penedès in search of a slower pace of life. The name Partida Creus refers to the crosses historically used to mark the boundaries between land holdings in the area.

When they arrived in Bonastre, Massimo and Antonella found local vineyards largely abandoned — old, low-yielding parcels planted with indigenous varieties that neighboring farmers considered commercially worthless. Rather than replanting with international varieties, they began acquiring and farming these old vines organically, recovering varieties like Sumoll, Garrut, Trepat, Cartoixa Vermell, and Vinyater. Viticulture follows biodynamic principles; the harvest is done entirely by hand. Sulfur additions were abandoned completely in 2013.

In the cellar, all wines ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and neutral oak barrels depending on the wine. No fining, filtration, or sulfur additions are used at any stage. The BN Blanco Natural involves brief skin contact maceration on the Cartoixa Vermell, separate fermentation of each variety in stainless steel and 300-liter neutral casks, and blending before bottling. Partida Creus now produces over 100,000 bottles annually across a range of single-variety and blended cuvées, each identified by a two-letter code.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

Penedès is a DO located in Catalonia, in northeastern Spain, roughly halfway between Barcelona and Tarragona. The region is divided into three subzones based on elevation: Baix Penedès along the warmer coastal lowlands (up to 250 meters), Penedès Central in the broad mid-valley, and Alt Penedès in the cooler inland hills rising to 850 meters. Partida Creus farms in Baix Penedès, in the Massís de Bonastre area near Bonastre village. Soils across the region include clay, limestone, and sand; the Baix Penedès subzone is characterized primarily by clay-limestone soils. The climate is Mediterranean — hot, dry summers and mild winters — with the coastal subzones moderated by sea breezes.

Penedès is best known internationally as the home of Cava, produced primarily in the Penedès Central around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia from Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada. As of the 2025 harvest, Penedès made history as the first wine appellation to achieve 100% certified organic production. The DO permits an unusually wide range of varieties, including both indigenous Catalan grapes and international varieties introduced by Torres in the mid-20th century. A growing number of producers, including Partida Creus, are focused on rescuing obscure indigenous varieties — Sumoll, Cartoixa Vermell, Garrut, Trepat — that were abandoned in the post-Franco era in favor of higher-yielding, more commercially familiar grapes.
