Tasting notes

This pét-nat delivers genuine textural complexity from native yeast fermentation: citrus peel and apricot up front, with a smoky, faintly saline edge on the finish that sets it apart from cleaner, more neutral sparkling wines. The blend of near-extinct Catalan varieties gives it a specificity you simply cannot get from Cava grapes grown conventionally.

AA stands for Anonimo Ancestral. This pét-nat from Partida Creus is made in the village of Bonastre in Baix Penedès, about 5 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast at 150 to 200 meters elevation. The blend draws on indigenous Catalan varieties including Xarel-lo, Parellada, Garnatxa Blanca, and Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), grown organically on clay and limestone soils.

The wine is made by the ancestral method: fermentation begins in tank with native yeasts, and the wine is bottled before fermentation completes, capturing the residual CO2 as fine, persistent bubbles. No sulfur is added at any stage, and the wine is neither fined nor filtered.

The result is a lightly hazy, gently sparkling wine with fresh acidity and earthy complexity from the native yeast fermentation. Expect notes of citrus peel, apricot, light smokiness, and a faintly saline finish. Each vintage varies as the blend is adjusted to the harvest.

Works well as an aperitif alongside anchovies, cured meats, or aged Manchego. The saline, citrus character also makes it a natural match for grilled seafood, shellfish, or a simple plate of olives and almonds. Drink it cool but not ice-cold to let the yeasty complexity open up.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Partida Creus

Partida Creus is the project of Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, an Italian couple originally from Piedmont who relocated to Barcelona in the late 1990s. In 2005 they acquired a property called El Maiol in Bonastre, Baix Penedès. While working the land they discovered an abandoned Sumoll vine on the property. Research revealed it had been a vineyard before the Franco-era government paid the previous owner's father to remove the vines and replace them with olive and almond trees.

With the goal of making organic wine for themselves and friends, El Maiol produced its first grapes in 2007. Massimo and Antonella now farm 22 hectares of land with 6 hectares planted to vines, all certified organic. They also source from local farmers and focus on rescuing indigenous and near-extinct Catalan grape varieties including Sumoll, Vinyater, Cartoixa Vermell, Garrut, and Parellada Rosa, among others.

All Partida Creus wines are made without added sulfur at any stage. Fermentation relies on native yeasts, and wines are unfined and unfiltered. The AA Anonimo Ancestral is produced by the ancestral method (pét-nat), bottled before fermentation finishes so that the wine captures its own CO2. The name Partida Creus refers to the stone crosses historically used to mark and separate land holdings in Catalonia.

Wine region

Penedès, Spain

Penedès is a DO located in the coastal hills of Catalonia, between Barcelona and Tarragona in northeastern Spain. The region is divided into three sub-zones: Baix Penedès (lower elevation, warmest, closest to the sea), Penedès Central (the broad plain), and Alt Penedès (up to 800 meters elevation, coolest). Partida Creus is based in Bonastre, within Baix Penedès, approximately 5 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast at 150 to 200 meters elevation.

Soils across Penedès are predominantly clay and limestone, with sandy and rocky variations depending on altitude and proximity to the sea. The climate is Mediterranean: warm summers, mild winters, and moderate rainfall in spring and autumn. Sea breezes moderate summer temperatures in the lower zones. Penedès is historically the center of Spanish Cava production, and as of the 2025 harvest it became the first wine appellation globally to achieve 100% certified organic production. Indigenous white varieties such as Xarel-lo, Macabeu, and Parellada dominate plantings, though producers like Partida Creus are working to revive near-extinct local red and white varieties.
