Tasting notes

This is a genuinely singular wine: 35 co-planted heirloom Georgian varieties harvested and pressed together, then aged 12 months in buried qvevri. The color runs deep for a rose, and the palate delivers red cherry, pomegranate, and earthy spice with moderate tannin that makes it feel closer to a light red than most roses. At around 10.5-11% ABV, it stays bright and food-friendly across the full glass.

Kortavebis Marani's 35 Varieties Rose is a co-fermentation of all 35 indigenous grape varietals planted together on a 2.5-hectare vineyard in the village of Gremi, Kvareli Municipality, in the Alazani River Valley of Kakheti. Winemaker Tamuna Bidzinashvili planted the varieties as a living library of Georgian viticultural heritage, with the blend including Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Kisi, Saperavi, Khikhvi, and dozens of rarer heirloom varieties.

The grapes are harvested together, pressed, and fermented with native yeasts in traditional Georgian qvevri — egg-shaped clay vessels buried in the cellar floor. The wine ages for 12 months in qvevri, then is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfite addition (35 mg/L). No chemical additives are used at any stage. All vineyard work is organic.

The result is a deeply colored rose that behaves more like a light red: red and black fruit aromatics, earthy spice, and integrated tannin from the qvevri contact. The low natural alcohol (around 10.5-11%) keeps it fresh and drinkable without sacrificing structure or complexity. It is one of the few wines in the world built from 35 co-planted and co-fermented native varieties in a single field.

The tannic structure and earthy fruit make this a natural match for roasted lamb, herb-marinated pork, or Georgian-style grilled meats. It also holds its own alongside aged hard cheeses and walnut-based dishes. The lower alcohol keeps it versatile through a full meal.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

Producer profile

Kortavebis Marani

Tamuna Bidzinashvili founded Kortavebis Marani in 2014 in the village of Gremi, Kvareli Municipality, in the Alazani River Valley of Kakheti, eastern Georgia, near the historic Gremi Fortress. The winery name translates to 'Kortavebis Cellar' in Georgian. Bidzinashvili began making wine with purchased fruit while her own vines grew; by the time of this 2019 vintage, approximately 60% of production came from the estate's own 2.5-hectare vineyard.

The estate vineyard functions as a living library of Georgian grape heritage, with 35 indigenous varieties planted together in a single plot. All vineyard work is organic, with no chemical treatments applied. The soils at Gremi are predominantly red clay with white stones. Bidzinashvili harvests all varieties together and co-ferments them, a practice that recalls pre-modern Georgian viticulture before single-variety bottlings became the norm.

Winemaking follows traditional Kakhetian methods: native yeast fermentation and 12-month aging in qvevri buried in the cellar floor. The winery uses different-sized qvevri for both fermentation and storage. All cellar work is done by hand, with bottling timed according to the lunar calendar. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered using direct decanting. Sulfite additions are kept minimal; the 2019 35 Varieties Rose was listed at 35 mg/L total SO2 at RAW WINE. No chemical additives are used at any stage.

Wine region

Kakheti, Georgia, Georgia

Kakheti is eastern Georgia's dominant wine region, accounting for roughly 76-80% of the country's grape harvest and home to 20 of Georgia's PDO appellations. The region stretches along the Alazani River Valley between the Greater Caucasus Mountains to the north and the Gombori range to the south, with vineyards cultivated at elevations between 250 and 800 meters above sea level. The Alazani Valley splits into two distinct banks: the warmer right bank, home to PDOs such as Tsinandali and Mukuzani, and the cooler left bank at the foot of the Caucasus, where Kvareli and Kindzmarauli are located.

Kakheti's climate is continental: warm, dry summers moderated by cool mountain breezes, with annual rainfall of 400-600mm concentrated in spring and autumn. The signature soils are cinnamonic — sandy, reddish calcareous clays high in iron — found throughout the region's premium growing zones, with alluvial soils dominating valley floors and forest soils on higher slopes. The region's flagship indigenous varieties include Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane (white), and Saperavi (red), alongside rarer grapes such as Kisi, Khikhvi, and Budeshuri. Kakheti is the historic home of qvevri winemaking, a method inscribed by UNESCO on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2013.
